Forums - Sony - SONY axes multiple games at UK studios.

From what I can gather, London has been hit pretty heavy. Most likely due to it's biggest sellers being Buzz and Eyetoy games. Buzz stuff isn't so popular nowadays, while Eyetoy stuff is kind of redundant now Move is the focus, which I guess Sony feel other studio's can do stuff with for cheaper.

Warrington / Liverpool have been under the kosh for a long time, and Liverpool havn't done anything for a long time. My guess is they're just putting them on NGP stuff, we know about Wipeout NGP anyway. I'm guessing Sony haven't got high hopes for Motorstorm Apocalypse either, and that's most likely a series we won't see on PS3 again, reckon the next one will be NGP only to reduce costs.

Any news on Cambridge? They've been rumoured to be cooking a PS3 game forever (Some even dare suggest it's a new Medievil) but all we ever see from them is handheld versions of bigger Sony Studio's games :/.

Psygnosis! It made me think about Lemmings... Why doesn't Sony resurrect them?

What have Studio Liverpool been working on since WipeOut HD was done? Psygnosis were one of the best developers in the Playstation 1 era.

That said, looking at SCEE jobs, they are looking for localisation testers at the moment.

More problems in the UK games industry. We have some of the best developers in the world and the UK gaming industry is far bigger then either of our film or music industries both in import and exports yet our government cuts fundings and incentives to help companies and development studios go out of business.

Ms doesnt seem to be cutting UK staff... if anything they are creating more

They are? in whichs studio? Rare or Lionhead? Either way both of these studios are big and MS need to keep hold of them, more so the latter. They don't have any other studios here do they?

There are lots of important studios in this country and many have fallen recently. While SCEE, MS and EA can support the big ones, others are falling. Our government needs to reinstate the tax benefits program to help them before we lose our biggest entertainment industry.

So true, I could be wrong (and forgive me if I am) but I read a while back that games are far more expensive to produce in the UK than anywhere else.

If the government doesn't step in to curb this I can see these companies eventually packing up and moving elsewhere and that would be a shame.

Looks like 20 people let go from Evolution/Liverpool and London could be shut down for good.

Where are you getting that nonsense from?

I hope they don't touch Cambridge Studios, I needs more Medievil.

Not calling you a liar or anything but I would like to read about it if this is the case and my searches have returned nothing. Can you point to a source, please.

They've been simultaneously growing and cutting Rare over the past few years.  Rare today is significantly larger than they've ever been and even opened a 2nd full development facility (Fazeley Studios) last year, but a lot of the old staff have also been forced out.
