Doubt it. Sony doesn't really seem interested in developing Japanese games anymore. |
It was more of a pipe dream really, though I could see them being a good NGP developer.
Time for hype

No, it isn't "deceptive" at all. On home console sales in Japan, Wii leads the pack (and by quite a bit), but has dropped the worst over the course of 4.5 years. That's what the point was after. Everything else is either redundant or irrelevant. |
Agreed. You really can't spin it any other way. The Wii was definitely the market leader for home consoles. At the beginning of the generation, there was always talk about how many games were announced for HD consoles only because they didn't know when development started how successful the Wii would be.
I always imagined the Wii to be a successful, but shorter lived console compared to others.
"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY." --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

I gotta agree with you. I don't think any 3DS will be first during any week. But I have hope for the 3DS successor.

Bets with Conegamer:
Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

So do like 99% of the games released in Japan. Zelda's not a million seller anymore, but it's still bigger than most games. Hell, Twilight Princess has outsold everything on PS3 that doesn't have "Final Fantasy" or "Metal Gear" in the title. Famitsu numbers...

Pro Baseball Spirits 2011 should top those two also. |
Oh, I didn't realize PBS was releasing a week earlier on PSP/PS3 than 3DS. Good old Konami strikes again. :/
One Piece is a port of the 2 Wii Unlimited Cruise games on a single cart. The Wii games did near 120k each iirc, I think the 3DS rev is going to do significantly more (like 250k plus lifetime).
Market leader of a dead market? Sort of devalues the term "market leader" doesn't it?

Hey, we're just stating what is, they are clearly the market leader. Other things may factor in. But when a Dragon Quest hits it can be seen.

Oh honestly that notion is just ridiculous. The home console market isn't dead, it's just more divided. Last gen all consoles combined sold about 30 million, 28 million if you take out Dreamcast. This gen will end not to far behind that.

No, DS was pretty clearly the market leader of Japan this generation. Which... was sort of my point.
