Forums - Gaming - Epic Games 'Would Love' to Put Gears of War on PS3

Mass Effect 1 was different, Microsoft paid for the development. With Gears, they didn't. Epic's deal seemed to be that they would optimize their engine for the 360 before they did the PS3, which they did.

Since Epic is such a big PC development house why didn't they take Gears 2 to Midway(or EA) after the initial release for a PC version?

Since you are saying they can do that...

The deal probably is that Microsoft publishes the three individual titles. So they need to wait a little while after the third is released to complete the distribution contract then we will see Epic contract out the release of the "anthology" of the three titles on other platforms.

Battlefield 3 will sell at least 8 million on consoles alone. Even Bad Company 2 sold 5 mill on consoles.

Yeah, Crysis 2 risks to flop but remember it's EA behind it. They can make even Army of Two to sell 2.5 million.

I believe Crysis 2 will sell over 4 million. Actually around 5. The last Medal of Honor sold over 4 mill with poor reviews-

Battlefield 3 will not sell 8 million on consoles. Yes, it will break 2 million on both (potentially 3-3.5 on 360), but it's not hitting 8 million.

EA was behind Mirror's Edge (their own franchise in fact) and it saw no higher than 2 million bewtee both console versions. I know one thing has nothing to do with the other, but EA's backing guarantees nothing either. I also didn't mean reviews, gamer feedback wasn't as strong as it needs to be for Crysis 2.

So I think (at most) Crysis 2 will do 4 million between the two consoles, but not much more.

Yeah but gamer feedback behind Medal of Honor before launch (and especially after) was also weak. Yet it sold 4.2 mill in 20 weeks (for some reason VGC data dont go further)

BF3 will sell 8 million. It's not the new COD but it will be nearly halfways.

Almost 5 million X360 and over 3 million PS3.

Bad Company 2 is over 5 lifetime million right?  Now look:

Now BF3 will come in the Holiday season, that's another 1 million extra.

It will get better reviews, rufly 93%, that's another 1 million extra.

Battlefield is a bigger franchise than Bad Company, that's another 1 million extra.

That is such a horrible logic.

An increase of metacritic score by 4 is not going to make a game sell a million more. And its releasing alongside another CoD, skyrim, Uncharted 3, Mass effect 3, and possibly last guardian it has a lot of competition you seriously think there's going to be the holiday effect?

lol yeah I know.

But it's so fun to argue with CGI so I had to come up with something.

EDIT: go to the Unreal next gen thread and reply to my post about that Brotherhood CGI trailer cos it was so fantastic.

Medal of Honor is also a proven franchise that's been around for quite sometime and had enough of a decent multiplayer to pull people in. Crysis 2 isn't launching during a holiday and doesn't have a name like MoH behind it. Those are key differences.

For Battlefield 3 to sell that much more than Bad Company 2, it would have to be an instant breakout hit. Now these things can happen; with new IPs (such as Gears of War), or new side franchises within a known IP (Call of Duty Modern Warfare), but they are generally exceptions to the rule, not the rule itself.

Can it happen, sure. Will it happen, I'm not thinking so right now (especially when a nice chunk of BF3's players will be on PC).

Thus: Crysis 2 - 4 million (PS3/360), Battlefield 3 (5-5.mill PS3/360 - perhaps 6 million). We'll see what happens.

But I want Crisis to sell  million. I like Crytek.

Plus it has this innovation going with the nano suit.

Sadly you cannot foresee the new super franchise that is Battlefield. I wouldn't be surprised if it sold well over 10 million.

BF3 will do what Medal Of Honor couldn't accomplish. EA knows this.

Will you get BF3 CGI? Have u got Bad company 2?

Perhaps you should stop trying to argue with me, as we argued on HEAVY RAIN and Alan Wake and I ended up right in both cases.

yeah I know... Just rub it in.

I am glad this will never happen, but if it did; I would start to think that I no longer have use for my 360.

I will probably be getting BF3 (although my holiday will be swamped with Downpour, Gears 3, Uncharted 3, & THE KING - Skyrim).

Sweet words.

Downpour, I hope it's good. At least the screens look good.

What about Dark Souls?? You wasnt particualry fond of Demon Souls if I remember correctly?

Btw what's your current feeling about Skryrim lifetime sales?
(yes it off topic but)

Skyrim may shock us. I think it has potential to do 2.5-3 million on PS3 and around 5.5 mill on the 360. Something just tells me it's going to be pretty big!

Yeah me too. Kinda like RDR and in a way also Assassin's Creed surprised everyone by becoming huge?

Your discrepancy is a bit weird though. There's proportionately more RPG fans on the PS3 and Oblivion sold over 2 million on PS3 despite coming out one year later.

I am thinking 4 mill plus 3.5 mill.

Yeah, Skyrim might really shock us and lift the Elder Scrolls franchise to the next level of mass market appeal.

It might just be a failure of my own imagination, but I just don't get why Epic feel the need to keep pointing out they own the IP.

I get it.  They could put it on PS3 if they chose, MS can't stop them, etc.  But as it really looks like they're never actually going to do it, why keep mentioning it?

Boiled down each time they mention this its "we'd love to, but then we remember MS really supported us".

Which is fine, but why not just leave it alone then?

For the record, I'd rather see 2 & 3 done properly on PC myself.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
