How is Sony's better when they cut out physical media compatibility entirely?  Nintendo's doing both?

And I've no doubt Nintendo will continue compatibility with all their digital platforms going forward.  Unlike Sony though, they'll keep their classic games (ie: Virtual Console) walled off between home and handheld consoles.

I am disappoint. that maxwell didn't address my earlier post but I guess this entire discussion is at it's dusk. Currently, Nintendo has very little content on virtual console compared to let's say psn or xbla.

I agree that Nintendo currently has a better solution but games on psn and account based purchases are a big up aswell. For example, most of the big psp games (don't laugh!) are up on psn and are tied to my account considering I bought them there. This is pretty good yes? Ds games don't really have this infrastructure of account based purchases. Or not yet at least.

All I'm saying is that there is a semblance of BC to ngp and that Nintendo will improve on virtual console, we agree yes?

Virtual Console? Well sure. But VC isn't compared to XBLA or PSN on the whole. It's compared to Playstation Classics and Xbox Originals.

WiiWare and DSiWare in terms of software volume will shock the Hell out of you.

Your VC, WiiWare, and DSiWare purchases are already tied to Club Nintendo accounts if you care to make them. It's how your DSiWare games will be able to be transferred onto your 3DS in May.

DS games on WiiWare? Basically none; for those you would need to look on DSiWare.

If you mean "what retail games can be downloaded via DSiWare", then none, but that wasn't the original point.

As to full games? Many. I am in particular love with Pictobits.

It wasn't?

"Ds games don't really have this infrastructure of account based purchases. Or not yet at least. All I'm saying is that there is a semblance of BC to ngp and that Nintendo will improve on virtual console [dsiware], we agree yes?"

This was in regards to not that Nintendo didn't have download games, but a robust infrastructure of well, retail ds games like your spirit tracks, phantom hourglass and what have you.

I think we agree here...

If it was your intent to convey that, then it was unclear; what it says is that Nintendo does not have an infrastructure in place to facilitate account-based software purchases, which allows the moving of DSiWare, VC, and WiiWare games between consoles. The thing is that they do.

Now granted, "DS games" could mean retail games, but needing account-based purchases for retail games seems kind of backwards, since Sony doesn't tie your retail purchases to any account either. I'm sure Nintendo will let you buy your games again when they become age-appropriate for the Virtual Console.

...okay...

In fairness Max... most PSP owners didn't buy their games in the first place. :3

This is true sadly... and even more sadly I'm the main demographic being screwed on this transition, the user that bought their PSP, supported it by buying retail games, before PSN became a big deal on the system, and yet only the few that started supporting download titles get any real benefit when the NGP comes out.

The sad part is the 195,271,066 physical games that will not be able to be used with anything but the original PSP. Though that tie ratio is a good reason to not support them since it falls just short of 3 titles per PSP... and I'm the fool with over 20 games on it.
