Forums - Gaming - NGP dead...3DS gimmicky...what should we play? Smartphones???

I think the article mimics a lot of my own thoughts towards the end of the current handheld gen. Recently I have been gaming exclusively on the DS/Ipod touch and I've just sold my PSP online as it was getting no gametime. The NGP looks even 'bigger' than the PSP, so I honest don't think I could justify using it as a portable device.

It's a good statement but also pretty close-minded.

The NGP and 3DS are both in trouble because handheld gaming is changing directions and going into a direction that are very troubling for traditional hendhelds.  People don't want to play Uncharted on the go, they want to play Angry Birds and Scrabble.

The NGP has a tough decision-- do they make people pay for hardware they aren't going to use on games like angry Birds or do they spend the money on games like Uncharted that people don't actually want?

It's a lose-lose situation and that's what the article is talking about.  McDonald's may have 100x the customers than your fancy steakhouse, but McDonald's also stays open while in the meantime nice steak house after nice steak house closes because they're serving what people don't want or what they can't afford.

If 3d gaming is the future, and its is truly not feasible to have touch screen and 3d on the same screen. Then Nintendo wins because of the 3ds's dual screen form factor.

3D gaming on a 3.5 inch screen is not the future, no matter what anyone on this forum tells you...lol

Same goes for 3D with glasses.

Agreed. However, it'l no doubt take several years to develop glasses-less 3D on the big screen...

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Not sure, it was just a prototype, and it had 3D effects just like the 3DS according to the reporters.

Its not yet on sale so no one knows how much it costs...

If it's anything like curent 3DTVs and HDTVs, probably around £2000...

HOWEVER, at least you won't have to buy additional glasses

According to everyone that has seen the Toshiba 3D TV without glasses at CES (and decided to post thoughts about it on AVSforum), the Tvs 3D effect blows chunks. It will most likely never be put in to consumer production but itll be for industrial use only.
