As Valve continues its inevitable quest to rule anything and everything with the irresistible power of its Steam platform, the company used GDC to announce plans for a couch-friendly version of the most popular PC game delivery system. Much like Vimeo and Youtube’s leanback modes or Whiskey Media’s own Theater mode, Valve is working on Big Picture, a TV-optimized interface for Steam with support for controller navigation. The plus-size Grid view Steam already offers works well from a distance, but Valve will likely optimize text and the store to be legible from across the living room.

Valve plans to divulge further details about the interface during this week’s Game Developers Conference. If you’ve been waiting for an excuse to hook your Mac or PC up to that home theater setup, you just found it.
