The wtf generation. Playstation lost its dominance, development prices soared to the roof, xbox vs. ps3 in a close battle, Wii got everything except 3rd parties, final fantasy went into 360, and blizzard is still kicking ass and taking names.

What name would you give the 7th generation? | |||
| Wii | 35 | 38.89% | |
| PS3 | 10 | 11.11% | |
| X360 | 3 | 3.33% | |
| HD (PS360) | 42 | 46.67% | |

Correct the OP is misinformed or lives in alternate universe. It is true that parents sometimes called all systems Nintendo or Playstation because they really don't know jack shit when it comes to video games, but the gamers called generation of past either 8-bit, 16-bit, etc...

I love you lists things under HD, but majority of that was started by the 360 later copied by Sony in some capacity. I am finding it funny that ps3 is put in with the 360, when it comes to accomplishments. If anything using your logic, 360 defined this generation, not HD. |
You could say that, yes, but SONY at least took steps to improve in many fields such as online gaming, achievements and DLC while Nintendo did not.
XBox didn't start online gaming, I remember it back on Dreamcast. Microsoft brought it to a whole new level.
PS3 also shares the large amount of 3rd part support that the 360 has. This is why I say "HD".
However you may be right and the 360 may end up being the most remembered console from this generation.
As for what the generation will be called, I think "Online Gen" or "HD Gen".
iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.
Currently playing:
Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

it's a very difficult fact to deal with I am sure. |
You people joke but here I am, and the intent is what's making me angry, the tone, and it's getting worse and worse every day
Edit: And how about THE SEVENTH GENERATION? Oh shit, it's like some kind of objective numbering shystem for generations that doesn't lend precedence in an overtly narrow and inflammatory way!
If only such a system already existed.

You don't seem angry enough. Last Generation cannot be labeled that easy, No system has 50% of the market, we have had two of the strongest second and third place ever which have received the best support from third party developers. If anything without the joke, I would call it the Casual Generation. With the Ipod, Wii, DS, Kinect, that market has flourished and becoming a force. No, it's not the Wii ( not strong enough), not MS, not Sony(lol), it's a combination of some many wonderful new ideas.
p.s The DS generation is also fine by me.
Next Gen

Ultimately all of this is arbitrary fan wank anyway, as we seem to be at odds not only with naming and numbering, but who belongs in what (where does the Atari 5200 go? Gen 2 or Gen 3?, as well as the occasional semi-joking revisionist talk of Wii being part of the 6th generation), whether handhelds are integrated into the console generations (i say they aren't. 3DS is a 6th handheld gen system), then we could talk about when generations begin and end
It's another part of the gaming lexicon that badly needs to be standardized, like classifying games on the sliding scale of hardcoredom to casualocity, or defining gamers themselves

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
Mh, very difficult for the 7th Generation:
Interface Generation
HD Generation
Network-Generation (yeah, don't forget Live, PSN and Virtual Console)
...

I still like the seventh generation best.
How about the interface generation?
Since last generation we now have:
So effectively we've had 3 new ways to interface with the consoles added.
Tease.
