Forums - Gaming - Why all the FPS hate?

Its really just on this site I see hate for FPS games. In the real world and other sites people like FPS games a lot more.

People on this site have WAY different taste in games than the average gamer in North America.

This site often seems overrun by Nintendo fanboys, many of whom have often seemed very anti-FPS for no logical reason.  I think it (the site) drew so many of them here because they could touch themselves while looking at the sales charts showing the Wii and DS ahead of Microsoft and Sony.

Agreed. Not trying to troll here but I think Ninty fan(boy)s hate FPS games because they don't have any good exclusive ones of their own. Sony has Resistance, SOCOM, Killzone, etc. and MS has Halo and Gears (I know gears is 3rd person but whatever) but Nintendo hasn't had any good ones since Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.

Also a lot of people on this site are into Anime and weird Japanese games nobody IRL has heard of. This site doesn't represent the mainstream gamer who plays things like Call of Duty, Halo and Grand Theft Auto.

I just got a little sick of the market being overrun by FPS games. I also feel they became a lot less interesting when they were shooting for realism more than ever.

I don't hate the genre, but I'm definitely not the biggest fan.

Yeah, I've outgrown anime, and I realized it after the cliche-driven nonsense shat all over Ninja Gaiden II and Metroid Other M.  I've often liked some weird Japanese stuff in the past, and I still think Treasure is one of the best companies where pure gameplay is concerned.  But anime as a whole, is just childish.  They try to sell it as "mature," but really, all they do is ramp up the violence, swearing and nudity to laughable extremes.  They don't put any time into mature, deep, thoughtful character development or storytelling, and I've seriously outgrown that kind of crap.

Plus, I've been banned on here for talking to the most "revered" Nintendo fan___s they very same way they talk to me.  Flying Spaghetti Monster forbid I have an honest opinion that doesn't assume everything Nintendo does is pure gold.  They can talk down to me with personal attacks, but woe be to me if I do it.

And yeah, Nintendo hasn't had a good First-Person game since Metroid Prime 3.  They (the Wii fans) could've made The Conduit and Red Steel into franchises that could have been Nintendo's Halo or Killzone, but nobody spoke with their wallets (oh wait, I have those games).  Better to have Wii Music.  It was made by Nintendo, so it must be good.

If you haven't played through Borderlands, Left 4 Dead, or Bulletstorm, you shouldn't complain.  Or Portal, for that matter.  Just because it's first person doesn't mean it isn't one of the best puzzle games ever made.

Yeah this part is very true. People have no problem buying anything with Mario in it or that is called Wii____(sports, music, play, etc.) but won't buy exclusives like Red Steel and Conduit which gives developers no reason to make anything more than a crappy party game to make a quick buck.

Yeah I agree with that. Aside from series like SOCOM and Ghost Recon that are all about realism I prefer a game that's fun even if its totally unrealistic.

I kinda wish GTA would go back to being over the top fun like in GTA3, Vice City, San Andreas and not realistic like GTA IV.

And the Nintendo fans act like they never understand why developers ignore Nintendo.  The ignoring started on the consumer side first, back on the N64.  Right now, there's a thread in the Nintendo section slamming Epic Games and complaining once again "why there are no Western (normally 3rd party) games on Nintendo systems."

Why not show developers there's a fucking market for such things for a change?

i'd say some people like me feel like there have been a lot lately especially of the call of duty:modern warfare kind and are generally burnt out on them, others generally hate them because  the call of duty kind have become extremely popular and while they like fps's they hate the direction that game is leading most fps's
