Watch replays with commentary if possible, scout often, use the hotkeys and shortcut, scout often, try to keep a reasonable apm, scout often, keep harvester count high, scout often, upgrades = good, SCOUT OFTEN, know the hard-counter units so that you can counter an opponent's build when you scout it (hence scout often) and most important of all, do not play as a zerg unless you like you get raped again and again before you learn to play. GLHF!

If anyone with an EU account wants a game just PM me.
Pick a standard build order for the matchup leading to a clear midgame plan[1], then rely only on superior macro[2] to win. Don't ever take risks, use crazy strategies or hope to win by surprise. Choose when to tech or expand carefully and don't ever do both simultaneously.
[1] e.g. "At the 10min mark I want to be on two bases with a large marine-maurader-medivac army with 1 attack, stimpack and combat shield". Then add on structures throughout the early game to end up looking like that at that point. For example a way to reach the above might be "3 rax -> stim -> pressure opponent -> expand -> engineering bay, factory and 2 more rax -> combat shield and attack upgrades". But focus on the goal you want to reach, not the precise build order.
[2] I mean focus on constant worker production, constant use of mule/chrono/inject, constant supply building construction so you never get supply blocked, and constant production out of your unit-producing structures. Always have the correct number of unit producing structures your base can support. Expand whenever it is safe, i.e. you see your opponent isn't immediately going to attack. Tech towards your midgame plan whenever it is safe too. Always get upgrades.
When you watch replays, make sure you are doing everything in [2]. If you're not, pick one to work on in your next game. Ignore any other mistakes you make; focus on the above only. (For example, ignore if you made the wrong units, or didn't respond to something fast, or controlled units poorly in battle. All that could be solved by just having more bases and more units than your opponent at all times, because they won't be good at the above and you would be)

Oh you big kidder you! Losing to a zerg! *chuckle* good one buddy, seriously what are you losing to? Terran? Protoss?

My advice would be : don't get too technical & have fun - the game will find the adequate challenger(s)
Trying to become really good in highly competitive games is both a waste of time and life
I personnally really enjoy :
mass marines medivacs tanks and occasionnally air complements
sending bases to exploit minerals in very high quantities for my mm attacks

They come to fast lolololol...im pretty good now though. After playing the campaign a bit and all. (only 2 hours of trial left =[) Gotta buy it soon lol....this is bad, my ps3 trophy level is gonna die -_-

I remmber when I first bought starcraft i was a 20 losing streak? You play as terran right? Something i found very helpful against zerg is to build a planetary fortrss immeadately! The fortress will easily get rid of a said amount of zerglings.
What I usually go for-
3 barracks (2 reactor and 1 tech lab)-go for about 4 marauders and however much marines you can have with the supply depot
about 4 supply depots
also make sure you buy stimpack
all of this takes about 6:30 starcraft time. You should enable the clock in the menus to see how long it takes you to build stuff.
Good luck!
I've only played 4/5 games online on the game so far, not had any major troubles yet.
The only minor trouble I had really was one guy rushing me with Reapers. For some reason he bypassed my mineral line and started attacking my supply depot's. Was strange. If he had gone for my SCV's he would have probably gained the upper hand and beat me decisively.
After that he kept on trying to get Thor's transported into my base and just got shot down and eventually killed.
I find this series of videos to be kinda helpful.
