Forums - Nintendo - Where and why modern Zelda fails or "Zelda. WTH happened?"

First of all, kudos on the "Until We Win" reference. Second of all, this seems dangerously close to a Malstrom article, and you know that will bring down the hate.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I just wanted to chime in that I have not enjoyed a home console Zelda since the SNES nor did I find any enjoyment out of the first DS one leading me to make Skyward Storm a bif iffy. I dont have enough info to know yet if I will give it a go. However, if its anything like the last Zelda games its a no go.

Ha Mr. Malstrom.

I'm sure you're well versed but according to him, Zelda has become a shell of its former self because

A.) It's all about the puzzles and the NPC's and the story now.

B.) Combat, Overworlds and Difficulty have all become jokes or non-existant.

C.) Art style dictate the game more than the game dictates the art style.

D.) There's now an entitlement that everyone who plays Zelda has to able to beat it.

And he blames Wii Fit Aonuma.

Pixel Art can be fun.

i dont care if they add back more difficulty and a weapon system but just give me some more stuff to do. (lol and another console windwaker)

Meh, all until TP was perfect.. after all it went downhill to hit Skyward Sword wall

While I disagree that all the Zeldas since Wind Waker sucked, or at least wern't as good as previous Zeldas, I would enjoy a more difficult overworld and more variety in swords and weaponry. I doubt that Zelda will go down this road in Skyward Sword as the trailers appear a smidge more "casual-friendly" (I'm not referring to the graphics), but Zelda, for me at least, is great whether it focuses on combat or puzzles.

i don't want you to be right. i want skyward sword to be majestic. ;_;

Those are not his only points. Take:

E.) Removal of danger and growth, which the OP mentions.

So in a nutshell, "New Zelda sucks because it's too easy."

You have good points, but meh.

Well there was definately a period where ALL nintendo games where getting way too easy (galaxy 1, nsmb ds and, yeah, twilight princess, to name but 3) so as not to alienate their (supposed) newly found casual fanbase (i assume).

Nintendo do seem to be aware of the dissatisfaction this has caused with some of their longstanding fans and do seem to be getting over this phase and some of their more recent releases have been a bit more difficult, so hopefully this will extend to SKYWARD SWORD. If not, I'm gonna be mighty pissed.
