i always thought you judged the library by the amount of fun you had playing the games... or is that not divisive enough

When people pick a gaming console they usually pick it based on one or 2 games that they really really want over and above any other game. If Halo is the be all and end all of great FPS experiences then PS3 is just a big black paperweight and Wii is, well, it's for the kids and housewives in a loveless marriage. If Gran Turismo is the racer that makes you cream your trousers (or wet your panties - don't want to be sexist here and assume all gamers are dudes) then 360 is just some non-descrpt square bit of plastic with some stuff inside it, and Wii is, well it's for the kids and housewives in a loveless marriage. If Zelda is everything you love about gaming then PS3 is just a black thing that appears to consume electricity at an alarming rate, and 360 is some device you have to pay a money for in order to do some interwebby stuff. If you've played and loved all the great PC fanchises, well, they're all on console now so the only reason you're still playing on PC is because you are either a bigger graphics whore than you'd care to admit or KB M is the only way to game.

Other than for use in a fanboy pissing contest the only reason to carry out a game library quality comparison is in order to see whether one can predict which console someone is more likely to buy if they fit your sterotypical gamer profile (or something close to it).

For both the fanboy pissing contest and the working out of the statistical probability of which console your average gamer geek is going to buy it's really the list of high quality exclusives you should use.

But as a purchasing predictor you have to go deeper, because you can't just say that because one console has more high quality exclusives than the others then that's the one most likely to be purchased. So there are too many variables to take the list of exclusives as a raw number and predict what's the most likely console purchase.

Thus the only purpose for creating a quantitative list is for a fanboy pissing contest. So for the purposes of making the ideal fanboy pissing contest you must use a list of platform exclusives and then place it in order of metascore, and let the fanboys argue.
