I'm happy about this, but that doesn't seen to be the overall tone in here...

People seem to be unhappy that Sony is doing well.

Sony isn't doing well unless of course you're using the word "well" very loosely, they're doing better than they were, that's about all that can be said, but they're not doing well, its already lost its holiday momentum and after the holidays are over, we'll see just how well it fairs against the 360.

People are responding to the over-eager sounders of victory who seem blind to all that is around them. You seem to think the PS3 was been a wet match that has sat around for a year drying off and now someone has finally struck it starting the fire. It's not so simple I'm afraid. When the holidays end, hopefully you will understand the wisdom we're trying to convey.

People are not waiting for the PS3 to make a comeback, people have already moved on to the 360 and others to the Wii. The consumer majority that favored the PS2 has already found substitutes, there isn't this massive populous waiting for the PS3 to give them the chance to support it.

for everyone saying this threads fails, because it is christmas. Ask yourself this; did you honestly think the PS3 would sell just as much WW as the 360 would this christmas?

I think for 99% of people, it was a no.

If you asked us that before the $400 version of the PS3 was announced, we would have not believed it, but since most of us were aware of the $400 version and the desire for Blu-Ray players these holidays, most aren't that surprised.

Even then the question you pose has no correlation what-so-ever to the validity of the thread. You're simply begging a question that was never asked in an attempt to try and dodge the one that has been answered. This isn't something a year or two down the road that you can simply bluff on the side of optimistic hope, the holidays will be over in a few weeks and the fruits of your predictions will be made more than clear while the taste of your words are still fresh in your mouth.

Once again, the answer was no because we did not take in account the new models, price cuts, bundles, etc...

And again, selling the same as the 360, but with some price cuts, the introduction of new models, movies bundles, etc, is not well, great, or anything like that, is just the same as the XBOX, which by the way is not great by any mesures too...

 Ask yourself:

¿how much Sony has do for the sales of the PS3 in the first year?

¿how much MS did for the sales of the 360 in the first year?

Look at the Playstation 3 now! 7.75 million consoles sold! 19.5% of the console market share! Remember when it was at the 6 million mark for the longest time... Well, it will probably leave the 7 million mark for the shortest time. The Playstation 3 is slowly catching up to the Xbox 360. Rumble is coming back, and Metal Gear Solid 4 will be the greatest game on the Playstation 3! Sony's back, and it might get revenge on the Xbox 360. Price drops have also boosted the sales of the mighty console. There is a chance that Sony's Playstation 3 will become a success! If you have noticed, the market share percentage of the Playstation 3, has slowly been taken from the Xbox 360. Wii's market share has almost stayed at the same percentage. I am not saying that the Playstation 3 will win this generation, but you really have to hand it to Sony. The Playstation 3 is officially not sucking any more!

Wii's market share goes up a lot slower because to go up Wii needs to sell a % higher then it's share every week. So every week Wii has to account for over 42.7% system sales which is hard when there's three systems. It's far easier to raise a low % ala sony because they only need to sell less then half that to increase their install % you do know how to calculate %'s right?

Unforuntately, there are many here (and in life in general) that are not great with Math/numbers and don't know how to properly correlate those numbers to real-world circumstances. People just see a number going up, and think it must be doing better than others; but the reality is, you don't have to outsell anything to have your marketshare increase (which is what PS3 has done all year...hasn't outsold anything except for a few weeks, but it's marketshare has increased). This stastistic really is meaningless unless you know what the actual sales numbers are. Any argument based on "market share" should really be disregarded unless other data supports it.

That's the big point... PS3 ain't doin (as) well (as it should).

The funny thing is, u can actually gain marketshare (%wise) whilst the other company is still widening the gap (Wii sold ~200k units more this week Ww, whilst being in short supply but still lost ground %-wise cuzz it was at a ratio of 6-4-4 (Wii-PS3-X360) = Wii loses marketshare but widens the gap with it's competitors.

even with the price cuts no one would say yes to 2007 being Sony's Christmas. The fact Sony and M$ are neck and neck is actually shows that its probable that Christmas 2008 will most likely be Sony's Christmas.

PS3 reduced the price and added 1 movie. 360 introduced a new $279 SKU plus they added 2 GAMES to the Pro bundle.

Also, I remember it clearly when the $399 PS3 was introduced and everyone in here was saying the sales spike would not last more than 2 weeks.

Even with the price cut MOST people in here did not expect the PS3 to be on pair with 360 this Christmas, no way.  Just a couple of weeks ago no one believed the PS3 would pass the 8.5M by the end of year and now it's obvious that the PS3 will pass 8.5M easily.

PS3 did turn things around and will continue to do so in 2008. Time will prove me right (I hope, lol)

EDIT: Found the thread: "PS3 Hiting 8 Mil Before 08'?" started on 11/27/2007, here is the link http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=10796. If you read it you will see that even 2 weeks ago people didn't expect PS3 to hit 8M by end of 2007.

EDIT2: Here is a commend by TheSource on that thread: "3:2 odds against it if I were a betting man.  Should be close though - 7.75 million +/- 300k at the end of 07'"

Optimistic predictions for 2008 (Feb 5 2008): Wii = 20M, PS3 = 14M, X360 = 9.5M

Did you miss the point or did you do that on purpose, I'm not saying that Sony is not neck to neck vs MS, but ¿how much did to achieve that level?, ¿can't MS do the same next year, bundles, price cuts, more models?, ¿should Sony do the same next year?
