Catherine did phenomenally, and MVC3 did really well too.  Nice to see.

Catherine especially, it's the best debut for a new Atlus IP ever as far as I can tell (although technically it's still set within the SMT universe).  In fact, going back the only games from Atlus with a better first week are... Famitsu numbers...

I said its worse because i am pretty sure JRPG's are supposed to sell better than Puzzle games in Japan. Its like a new IP FPS getting beat by a new IP Puzzle game in America. It just begs the question "would TLS have sold more on ps3?".

I think the problem here is that Catherine also outsold every new IP JRPG on PS3 this gen too, bar WKC.  It also outsold every new IP JRPG on PSP, and every one on DS except Ninokuni.  So, when faced with that... are JRPGs supposed to sell better than puzzle games?  Because unless it's developed by Level 5, that evidently isn't the case on any platform?

To be honest, I bit unsure of TLS comparison at all, given it did pretty well 1st week.  TLS also outsold every new IP JRPG 1st week on PSP now that I think about it... does that mean every PSP new IP JRPG would've been better off on Wii instead?

lol, I was being sincere (yay Atlus!)... and then after posting I read the thread. :x

The TLS stuff makes zero sense to me.  I expected some trolling TVC/MVC3 comparisons but the Sony fans have really gone above and beyond in the logic defying category this week.  I'm literally dumbfounded... and I think a little dumber after reading all this. :/

Lies your too busy dancing at the Wii sales!

I wanted to say that at first but thought not to, for obvious reasons.

You can do it for me though!

For the record I aint agreeing to dance, so I am not reportable here!!!!!!!!111

@MUGEN-Kun

what the

so Catherine ps3 > TLS? 0_0 That's just insane!

Indeed it is, hence why I said, "Catherine is the BREAKOUT New IP JRPG this year" post....the underdog came out of nowhere.

Will check Amazon Japan at the end of this week to see how the game was received.

Catherine is not a jrpg its more of an puzzle game.

Thats even worse for TLS lol

Doesn't matter. They shouldn't be compared at all. Unless you like to compare apple and oranges. We all know the problem with NEW JRPG IPs selling in Japan.

No it isn't. JRPGs are having a tough time selling nowadays. Look at Ni no kuni sales for that matter and let's not turn this into another " TLS would have sold better on PS3 ". Congratulations to Catherine though.

I spose you classify God Eater as just action then?

To add to the defense force:

Wii Sports outsold FFXIII. I am pretty sure JRPGs are supposed to sell better than random sports games in Japan. It just begs the question, "would FFXIII have sold more on Wii?"

...to be honest, I think both our hypotheses would prove true, but let's not delve into that.

I feel very confident that we'll see Persona 5 at least on the PS3-exclusive if not HD Multiplat

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

I tend to block out MH clones. :/

In my defense, Namco themselves don't consider it an RPG.   And Capcom doesn't consider MH an RPG either actually.  They're "Hunting Action" games.
