DKCR took them 2 years to release. Releasing a new one or something else would probably mean 2012, which might lead to weaker sales, supposing Wii 2 comes in 2012.
Unless... they have been making a new game along DKCR with a late 2011 date. A big if, but who knows!

Hopefully they mean the Nintendo 6, and are just saying Wii to keep it under raps, as it is about time for them to get started on new console projects

Why? Just because you and others want it to be time doesn't mean it is.

How big is the team at Retro? They may have already been working on another project along side Donkey Kong, and now are devoting all their resources to it.

There was a rumour at one point suggesting Retro was working on more than one project (this was before E3 and before DKCR was announced) but I can't remember where it came from and I don't think it was based on anything substantial.
Somebody else might be able to find a more accurate source, but here it says that Retro Studios has somewhere between 51-200 employees. Not very helpful lol

Maybe the fact that the Wii was the best selling console on the market last year means that Nintendo have no intention of releasing a successor any time soon and that the Wii will continue to get support for the 2-3 years it takes to get this game into the shops.
If it's stressed that they have to liason between Retro and Nintendo then I would expect we are guessing about an already existing first party Nintendo franchise.
I think it's a given that DKCR2 is coming out, it's just a matter of which console it will come out for. Wii1 or Wii2. I say Wii2. The other title I suspect is Metroid because sales of Other M were dismal and that was the first non-retro metroid in a while.
Nintendo has also mentioned that they were dissapointed with the latest installment of Sega's F-zero GX (I thought it was awesome despite sales. Last I'll see of a title like that I think). So they will want to change companies on that. But there are a million possibilities. I'd rather stick with a new DK or Metroid for guesses.
