Zelda... is a platformer now?  This is news to me and I've been playing Zelda for nearly 20 years lol

Its most likely the same reason ppl think Zelda is a they see a few instances of platforming and RPG mechanics and they think it belongs in those genres

Eh the closest thing to platforming was a couple of side scrolling segments in the gameboy Zeldas and maybe MAAAAAAYBE the 3D Zeldas even though there really isn't any focus on jumping and platforming at all lol

RPG elements I could see but I never see anyone call it an RPG, I just make that argument when people want to start redefining genres, usually what makes an RPG an RPG I often bring up the elements in Zelda cause the series is 25 years old and always had those elements but has been Action Adventure since the start.

You forgetting Zelda 2?  Which reminds me, I need to beat that game or any Zelda game.  I always start them but never finish them.  I just never have the dedication and get distracted by other games.  I am probably the worse Zelda owner since I have yet to finish one of them (own 5).

Eh no Zelda 2 doesn't have things like Roc's feather which is what brought in the "platformer" aspect of the gameboy Zelda's as they had side scrolling segments that would require a couple of jumps... but it still hardly counted as platforming.

MaxwellGT2000 - "Does the amount of times you beat it count towards how hardcore you are?"

I don't think so, Nintendo's first party is very high quality.

According to my prediction, Zelda SS will be the lowest rated Zelda since Zelda II. But even then it won't be a bad game.

yeah, because the Mario and Zelda CD-i games are universally considered the pinacle of gaming

On topic, IMO brand loyalty and popularity can work both ways for the critical reception of games.  If they try something new and it doesn't work perfectly, they will be slammed initially and/or in the future (other M is a good recent Nintendo example).

One has to also consider than many Nintendo main line franchise installments this gen haven't reached the critical reception of previous installments (NSMBWii and Zelda ST failed to get to 90 on Metacritic for example)
