Forums - Gaming - is it possible for a nintendo platformer to be bad or a bad review

this just came to me.   when was the last time a mario game, donkey kong, zelda, or any other nintendo platformer MAIN SERIES (please ignore spinoff titles for this thread) got a bad review.  do you think that gamers ignore the actual game and focus solely on their icon for these games?   for instance, my one friend is a huge zelda fan, but he said he might not even get the new one since they are all virtually the same game.  regarding the new donkey kong, (i have not played it personally so dont rip me too hard for this upcoming statement)  has it really done anything new and different from other platformers?   i like most of nintendos games myself, it just seems that people dont review the games like they do other games.

EDIT:  i should have named it any big name nintendo hero or something like that, because zelda being called a platformer is causing a fuss ...again my point is just that because theres a popular name on the game, that seems to automatically make it good

Zelda... is a platformer now?  This is news to me and I've been playing Zelda for nearly 20 years lol

Skyward Sword....is the same game as all the others? when did this happen?

in the case of DK, it was just an incredibly done platformer. idk a whole lot is new(havnt gotten a chance to play a whole lot since my brother has it at college >.<), but it is still a fantastic platformer from what i hear, nintendo's forte. and the zelda series is not a platformer series.

Its most likely the same reason ppl think Zelda is a RPG  they see a few instances of platforming and RPG mechanics and they think it belongs in those genres

This is going to cause quite a s**tstorm.

Twilight Princess was incredibly overrated. I enjoyed it for the first bit but eventually just found myself wanting it to end. It just seemed like a prettier version of OoT and a total retread.

Also Super Mario Galaxy 1>2. Granted I haven't finished the 2nd one, but the first just seemed more awesome to me. SMG2 is good but not a 10/10 like most things say. And before I get torn apart too hard these are my opinions :P

But I guess for the topic at hand, Nintendo just knows what they're doing when it comes to them. I generally focus away from review scores lately but enjoy most Nintendo games that I've played, even the newer ones (obviously the older ones). Incidentally enough I just started my first playthrough of Link to the Past.

It's arguable that Zelda SS is the most innovative title in series to date - When did that become "virtually the same game"

It's not a platformer either

Get your facts straight

Eh the closest thing to platforming was a couple of side scrolling segments in the gameboy Zeldas and maybe MAAAAAAYBE the 3D Zeldas even though there really isn't any focus on jumping and platforming at all lol

RPG elements I could see but I never see anyone call it an RPG, I just make that argument when people want to start redefining genres, usually what makes an RPG an RPG I often bring up the elements in Zelda cause the series is 25 years old and always had those elements but has been Action Adventure since the start.

Thats my point..but just because ppl see it in there they assume its plaformer or at least part.

It's possible, but I've never played one.

Kirby is as bad as it gets and those games are pretty good.
