Forums - General - Lots of charts about American wealth

The only thing that surprise me is that you are surprised about it.. The future is scary if you know the government has to save a lot of money and know the middle class will feel it;.

Well you know it consider yourself lucky;..Try to save money or take a second job and save enough so you feel safe for the taxes in the future if possible;.

To maybe give an example of an other country;..

Well I live in the City 'Brussels'  Brussels has and GPD of 75-80.000$.
Still 20% of the population can't afford to have a meal 3 times a day;.

It is not like this is an USA only problem..

I find it strange that people are electing people with 300 million in the bank.

I'm not sure I follow you.

A few people are rich. Rich people have a lot of money.

EVIL! KILL IT AND REPLACE IT WITH SOCIALISM!

Seriously, why does the fact that a few people have worked hard and got lucky, and thus have become incredibly rich, reflect badly on America or the American way of doing things? Do you propose stealing their money and giving it to poor people? That would make you either Robin Hood or Vladimir Lenin. Except that those two actually got out and did something about it, rather than constantly whining about how everyone else is doing everything wrong without ever suggesting a new system.

It surprises you that people aren't basing their votes on the net worth of candidates?

This is such a load of shit. If you don't think this country's economic and legislative systems have been manipulated by the wealthy and powerful to benefit themselves, you're just not paying attention.

Conspiracy commie you've become. Put tin foil on your avatar.

The problem: the Commies later realised that nothing else worked and went on to do the exact same thing :-/

Jesus Christ, would it kill you to read the article before commenting?

No one is complaining that people are rich. The problem is that they KEEP GETTING RICHER while the middle class is sliding backwards.

The only graph that disturbs me is that it seems like the real income of most Americans has gone down in the past 20 years. I don't care that the top 1% own 20% or whatever of the money, all I want to know is that, 20 years from now, I will be better off. Apparently that isn't the case, most people are worse off.

That's really the key here. The super-rich are controlling a higher percentage of wealth while the middle class is moving backward.

I've read the article. The whole thing is complaining about how rich people are rich, which is something of a tautology.

1) Of course they keep getting richer. They have more money to invest. That's how capitalism works. And have you seen the alternative?

2) A richer person is more likely to be well-educated and politically involved, so the fact that congress members are statistically richer than the population as a whole is not surprising in the slightest, and happens in every country that has ever existed, including the Soviet Union.

3) The rich pay considerably more tax than the poor, and to increase the amount of tax they pay further begins to negate the advantages of hard work to attain the success that those people attained.

So, again, what do you think should be done to resolve this "problem"?
