Forums - Nintendo - Sin and Punishment Star Successor. WTH happened???

a quarter mil, thats it. Thats all a good Ninty game sold. WHat happened, were people so captivated by GTA wild west AKA RDR ( dont flame me it is good) that they said screw this. Im just as much to blame because i choose other games over it, but i recitified that by ordering it, and it is damn good. I like the original but IMHO i couldnt even go back to it after playing this version, i know the haters are gonna say that "there are too much rail shooters already" but i think thats nonsense, there are far more Barbies, Icarlys and lose this weight but no one complains about those, and its not like this game plays like HOD or RE ones, so I ask why was a good game so poorly supported and a Ninty one at that. Hmm.. it seems to me that when Ninty gets a 2nd party involved in making a game it either turns out not so good commercially or critically. I do hope Treasure broke even at least cause i think this was a good game

It's a niche rail shooter. I am not even gonna go into explanations, there is no point. Besides, since when has Treasure ever been a hit maker? They were always quite niche.

"it seems to me that when Ninty gets a 2nd party involved in making a game it either turns out not so good commercially or critically."

The game got a 87/100 score on metacritic so it was well received critically. - http://www.metacritic.com/game/wii/sin-and-punishment-star-successor

Treasure didn't have to worry about how well the game did since Nintendo was paying for development and publishing.  But it did deserve better sales.

The game was really good, but it is really difficult as well, I did manage to finish the first one on the VC, but it was damn hard... I dont think nintendo expected a million copies with this, we never know though, but I dont really think so... Hopefully the numbers were good enough to have a 3ds version...

How much marketing did this have? I would think some commercials showing people having fun blowing stuff up, whether it was pointing the Wiimote or adding blaster effects from it, would have helped.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

The Wii is a difficult sell for this kind of game.  Most hardcore gamers flock to more big-budget HD titles with better graphics and more online functionality. Very few hardcore-type games have sold incredibly well on the Wii.

That said, I am not sure Sin and Punishment would have sold well on HD consoles either.  Other challenging games like Vanquish didn't exactly light the charts on fire either.

Most anticipated games of 2011:

Uncharted 3,Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Rocksmith

Modern Warfare 3, Super Mario 3D

Here's some commercials though I don't know how much play they got (I personally never seen them on TV)

15 second commercial

30 second commercial

30 second commercial (Japan)

Nintendo seemed to give up on it early. It was released in Europe first, but got no Australian release (JB Hifi were selling imported european copies, but a limited amount). It's almost as if they gave up by the time it reached the US.

Oniyide how much exactly did you really think that this game would sell because for me as long as it breaks even for treasure and nintendo I would call that a success for a nitch game like this. Much like Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom or Muramasa which both have only made around 430K, yet have been labeled success by capcom and vanillaware respectively because they've managed to turn a profit. To me your the one constantly spoutting gloom and doom for nintendo by starting these threads that lable every produce that doesn't meet your own lofty standards as a flop.

I think this game was a financial success. As good at is is: This is a low profile game with very low production cost.
