Forums - Sales - Is Sony really losing that much MORE money on the PS3 after price cuts?

And really my only worry about the PS3 is that GTA IV is released with the PS3 being 200 more than the Xbox360, since I think the Xbox360 will drop in price.

Online it seems to be more pro-Xbox360, however the average, mainstream consumer still seems to be waiting on the PS3 price to come down just a little more.

However, if GTA IV comes out and the price difference is that much, then the Xbox360 just may end up the mainstream console for this gen. Currently its more hardcore gamers/Xbox1 owners buying the system.

First off, I followed what you were saying until you got to your 'point' (last two paragraphs). But if you think Sony will cut the price to $299 next year than you're living in dream world.

I know, this guy is insane when he thinks Sony will lower the price on the console next year. It might be for the 80GB PS3. But then again its will most likely be a $20 or $50.

If anything Sony will lower the price on the PSP Core Pack to $130 or $150....

Heres my point right here.

They only cut the price $100

599 highend

499 lower spec

cut to

499 high end

399 lower spec.

So they are losing about the same after price reductions

60GB $599=>$499 First price cut

20GB $499=>Oblivion

80GB $599=>$499 Second price cut

40GB $399=> New model, less features, low price ¿So counts as a price cut?

THey were losing what 240 bucks at launch for the 600 buck ps3? they cut the price by 200, and so unless they cut the production values by half i dont see them coming close.

THey can still cut the price, but if they want to stop bleeding they wont. Matters what they want more.

 Probably depends on what MS does, if MS really wants to stick the knife in they should drop a $100 off each of their models, they can absorb the losses, and it will be a real blow to the PS3

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

This somehow ended up in the wrong thread...nevermind!

 Why is that living in a dream world. Spokesman from Sony already stated that it would be the "ideal" price at $299. I agree with them on that. It's the price that console have always been released at. And if they arent losing any more money, and PSP sales continue to increase then Sony should be able to drop the price to around $299.

 Do where do you get that the PS3 is $200 more than the Xbox 360.

Are you on something? Seriously check your information before posting...

The PS3 has 2 SKU on the market:

80GB PS3: $500

40GB PS3: $400

That 40GB PS3 is competing against the Premium($350)/ Elite($450)....So to be honest the mass consumer will look into the 40GB if they don't want a Xbox 360.

Sony accepted 499 as a seeling price since launch. It now has an SKU that costs less to create at 399. Doesnt that mean they have dropped the price, at most, by $100? I just dont see where people are pulling $200 price drop from.

Seriously you are missing the point, why should Sony drop the price and they are doing fine as it is. When we see that the sales are dropping below expectations. You can rest assure that Sony will make a move.

The 20GB model only exist in our minds, Sony make just a few to spice sales of the 60B model, it was easily forgoten and pull it out of the production chain, man is like the yetti, the only available SKU for the first months was the $599 version, now there is two "new" versions one at $499 and other at $399

They drop the price twice by $100 on each version(80GB and 60GB), they release a new model $200 cheaper than the original and really available model, this is why some of us saw it as a $200 price cut...
