I was looking back at the database to see what console/handheld to see who sold the most in one week in North America. After checking I believe PS2, on the week ending December 21, 2002, sold 960,847 units in one week, which by far is the most.
Question is can Wii or DS break this one week record. Let's look over the scenarios. First of all ioi has shown us reports that Wii sold 600k on Sunday, December 16, the first day in the week. That leaves 6 more days to sell 360k. Now if the other 6 days sold like the last week due to shortages it'd end, with about 800k. Which wouldn't be enough. But people are saying that Wal mart didn't get it's shipment til the mid part of this week, or right now. Meaning it should have seen another boost. It's possible that it could not only break the record, but sell more than 1 million in one week. This is all speculative but just putting it in perspective.
Now the DS sold 700k last week. It shouldn't slow down as the next week's sales data should be the pique of sales for the entire year. Meaning it should increase. We'll just have to see where it goes.
What do you guys think. Can Wii or DS break the record and possibly go over a million in one week, which is unprecedented?
Not to mention let's give some credit to PS2 for putting the bar that high. Quite amazing. Was a beast of a console.
