This. They're basically the ultimate challenge any gamer will face. The only thing I can think of that really compares is some of the insane drum songs in GH/RB.

Because the gameplay is quite simple and it's 2D, they can go all out with the production values even if it's a one-man team. So the graphics, music, story, level design can become 'cult'.
