Forums - Gaming - The Wii's fall from grace

Also, this week:

Wii from 63,944- 63,789. Looks like its stabilised now...

PS3 from 86,913-83,490. IT'S STILL FALLING! IT IS TEH DOOMEZD!!!

You see? This is how stupid this thread is. Singling out one poor week of sales is stupid, because there could be reasons for this decrease. It's not sensible. Will I go out now and make a 'PS3 is DOOMED' thread? No, of course not. Because it's not the Wii...

If we talk about the whole year, then the Wii will likely extend its lead by a couple million, like last year, depending on price cuts etc.

But singling out the Wii's slow start from its amazing holidays and over 85million previous sales is idiotic, and is beginning to annoy me and many other people on this site

/rant

Wii 18,345,329 (-15%) 83,659,784
PS3 14,443,529 ( 11%) 46,345,856
X360 13,606,638 ( 34%) 50,388,641
Wii 182,613,195 ( 2%) 614,324,080 (7.34)
X360 141,034,044 ( 24%) 458,452,990 (9.10)
PS3 126,988,806 ( 38%) 330,894,142 (7.14)

Both the Xbox 360 and PS3 are up YOY for both hardware and software whereas Nintendo are flat on software and down on hardware. So you can definately say that if grace = dominance, then Nintendo surely is falling from it or has already fallen from it in the console market. From a revenue perspective, its possible that roughly speaking Sony = Microsoft = Nintendo and for 2011 they're probably going to fall behind.

I know, that's my point. It isn't this week compared to last week though is it? Therefore extrapolating that data MUST mean it's doomed, instead of waiting for more data to get a better view of things in the long-term

That's how stupid these threads and others are IMO. Not enough info at the moment to make an accurate judgement on the 'doom rating'...

@conegamer I wished i shared your faith in Ninty, i really do, but im just not seeing it. I hope im wrong, because the motion for me is a paper weight right now, hell its not even connected to my Wiimote

I don't have faith in Ninty anymore

What I do know though is that Zelda is big enough to kick off new genres, so a simple add-on should be simple, and should nugde people to making games with it...

@conegamer i hope so, the motion really is a vast improvement over the Wiimote

Agreed, especially after playing Red Steel 2, it proves it

PS3 1,431,643 (-90%) 47,777,499
Wii 1,397,944 (-92%) 85,057,728
X360 1,318,760 (-90%) 51,707,401

Well... Is this enough information? Wii in 2nd place YTD and may fall into 3rd place YTD in 2011.

Tease.

But it's not just this week.

From January to March 2010 Wii sold around 3,8M consoles comfortably outselling competition. That's around 20% of 2010 number.

With the way it's tracking currently it'll be around 2,5M this year for Q1.

It probably would have helped if Wii Motion tech was standard feature at launch.  That was one of the really glaring flaws.  TBH, I really disliked the Wii and motion controls until I got to see what Wii Motion was like.  Now it's too difficult for devs to support it bc of the split userbase.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.

Time to ride it out with price cuts, bundles and new colors.  Bring on Wii 2, long live the 5 year cycle.

We're in year 6 of the Wii life. Way past the point where games can still be called system sellers...

Sure some release will bump sales  by 20-25% a week. But we are way past the point where a game will double or triple hardware sales for several weeks in a row..

Maybe, but it might be a big enough bump for it to outdo the other systems, which is all that seems to matter in threads like this. =)
