The creators have the say, and the least we can do is respect that. So if anyone doesn't like the PS3 and its values, you're better off donating/supporting a company that makes products to your liking and values, rather than giving to a dead end cause as is the case with Geohot.

And what happens in an endgame case when ALL companies that offer products force you to play by their rules? This is what the current case will decide.

Then  ull be very successful if u start a  company with a product where consumers like your rules.

And how long do you think that would last against the like (and cashflow) of Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo?

They'd swallow a small company up quicker than Standard Oil swallowed up it's competitors back in the 1800s

I dont know about that but I didnt see AT&T 'swallow' Verison when they appeared.

Maybe they didnt consider them a threat when they started. I have no idea about the state of US Telcos, so I cannot comment there.

The difference is, if the big 3 see a threat from the beginning, theyd be able to stamp it out before it takes a hold.

I have a gun so I have the right to give it to who I want and shoot who I want.

Smart real smart.

No, because shooting someone is illegal.  In many states you have the right to give it to whoever you want though, as long as they aren't a felon.  I've got a legal 0.50 mussel loader that I bought from a buddy, no government involvement.  I love Mississippi.  The argument is that I can do with my PS3 what is legal, and modding without pirating should be legal.  That is what the case will address.

Crappy analogy with no thought put into it.  It would work if shooting someone were legal but it does kind of work on the give it to whoever I want part though, as long as it's not a felon and it depends on the state.

Edit:  In the USA of course.  If guns are illegal in your country of residence then the entire analogy falls apart because possessing a gun is illegal.

wow hes quite twisted lol.

The funny thing is, some people are getting the results of geohot winning, or sony winning mixed up. Those people are rooting for geohot, while the results they hope for won't happen.

If geohot wins, most of us lose, then Sony is probably going to make the next console a ''borrowed'' one so you don't have the right to do anything to it.'Then you don't own your console completely, you can wreck it but don't hack it. It also means more DRM and shit from other companies. If sony wins, nothing will change much, why would it? They won anyway. The closer geohot gets, the more new rules we will get.

And btw, you don't have complete pc freedom either, there are many laws which makes downloading and installing certain stuff illigal. Though it depends on the country on how they exactly work.

If Geohot wins, anything that Sony attempts to sell to consumers are up for modification. Hardware has not got the same licensing restrictions as software. Not yet, at least...

I'm confused, why would hardware be available to modify. He didn't do that and that is not what the case is about. Sony have never argued against modifying the hardware behind the PS3 just the changing and redistrubution of software that was writen and copywrited by them, right?

I've read back in this thread, don't really understand why this guy has been given money when that money could go to another more worthy cause, not one bought on by themselves. I decided to give some money to Shelter, £5 a month.

Hmm, pie.

I wouldn't make broad generalizations if they weren't true.  Never has this site been so anit-pirate and amazingly it occured after the PS3 was hacked.

That's fine, just please understand that what I'm worried about is if Sony's indeed incapable of solving this issue. Now you argue that it's Sony's fault for leaving a flaw in the system's security.

If geohot was the good guy he claims to be (which, based on his history, is debatable), he would NOT put such a system breaking code in the hands of the wrong people. That is why I'm not supporting him.

I honestly have no company or console allegiance. I'll just play and prefer the console that provides me the most entertainment.

Edit: Damn, no offense to some people here, but this thread turned into a spinfest.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!
