I'm not supporting either side, though. If companies use this as an excuse to take away more and more freedom from people using their products, then they can say bye to their supporters.

I dont think xen is getting you drift here... but I agree with you.

How so? I see the threat from both sides - the hackers' and Sony's. It's just that Sony's threat of "not owning a product" sounds so incredibly crazy that I don't expect it to ever sincerely go into effect, and as such, I'm not really worried about it and would prefer to see him lose. Also, the catch in his extraction of the codes is that he didn't just hack his own system for personal use - he hacked a whole grid and gave the means to do so to everyone. That is why I don't completely relate to the "consumer protection" side of this whole ordeal... so far, only bad things have come of this.

(If I seemed supportive of Sony so far, then the above is why).
