He was fine up until the moron decided to SHARE it with everyone else. If he kept this to himself we wouldn't be having this discussion. |
It should be, and probably will be, perfectly legal to share what he did. He opened up the system to allow consumers to do what they want with what they own. As long as he did not pirate he should be left alone. What others do with what he did is not his fault.

Hey, I know people who bought PSP's just so they can play SNES games. You'd be surprised... besides, it's irrelevent how much it factored into the purchase... as long as someone wants to do it with their product they have every right too, even if it was only a 1% reason they own the console.
If anyone should be sueing him... it's Nintendo!

Now we just need Tales of Graces F!
| Xen said: I can't (not) complain. And yeah, hacking is only good when there's room for benefit or somebody tries to extract benefit - but the PS3 has neither. Linux on the PS3 was infinitely slow and the homebrew... let's say... "rudimentary". There isn't a lot of games that you can patch, either, and nobody will be interested since Japanese imports are goddamn expensive. Media playback is incredible on the PS3 Media Center. No less. B/C? Get a PS2. That's what I say about all B/C cases. |
How aren't B/C and fan translations a good thing? There isn't a lot of homebrew ~2 months after release of homebrew? PS3 didn't have that great of a lineup two months after release either... You have to give people time to make the good stuff.
Japanese imports are expensive? I've imported a couple games from playasia because it was actually cheaper then buying them off of PSN...
PS3 media center? Is that the thing where you have to have it plugged into a router with a computer and have software on it...?
And no thanks, my family has paid for 4 PS2s, but lets not get into that now ;)

A second ago they didn't have people working on homebrew. Now it doesn't count because the PC does it better? :p
And again... it's been ~2 months

Other then, you know... not everyone wants to hook up a computer to their TV, but people may want to run this stuff on their TV. In general you just seem to be selfrationalizing. Whether it's your previous use of hacking or your new dislike for it... I can't say. |
Yeah, because hacking your console is so much easier than hooking up your PC to your TV. What are you even talking about? Did you try either? Because I tried both. Solder shit like with gen6 and some gen7 items, or simple VGA or HDMI connection instead? Exploits or simply connecting?
Hacking is only good with room for benefit. There is NONE here. Self-rationalizing? I don't really get the definition, English is my 3rd language.

None, because nothing is popular aside from signing some malicious code. People don't exactly buy their PS3's for SNES/Gen games, it's simply a nice addition for 1% of the buyers.
And 4 PS2's? Your bad luck :P
Also some games on Play-Asia =/= all

You are basically saying "I am against this hacking because it doesn't offer anything I want."
There is plenty of benefit here... it's just nothing that benefits or interests you personally.
Hacking your console once can be seen as less trouble then having to drag your computer into your living room EVERY time you want to do that... don't you think? If your tech savy anyway.
Here is another benefit. With OtherOS active again, people can again build cheap supercomputers out of PS3s.

From what I've read upgrading to Geohot's firmware is as easy as saving the file to a USB then booting it in your PS3. Then you get all the homebrew along with Linux, without even having the temptation of playing back-ups. You can download all the new firmwares, Sony keeps selling you games and doesn't have to waste money on the bandwith it costs for you to download ofw, and you don't have to lug around a heavy PC. Everyone wins :)

And how exactly is letting that 1% have their fun going to ruin your experience?
People on this site have been clamoring for Tales, ACER, and a few others to get released here. I'm sure they wouldn't mind spending the extra money to be able to play them
