I second this. I would love to have that information readily available.

LOL at the PS2 number. And that accounts for Wii having 1 extra holiday season.

That one person...
OK, maybe it's more like a year...but still, the Wii is around 5-6mil ahead overall, and I expect it to stay there until 2012/2013!

Kind of a quick and dirty comparisson but there you go. Subtract about 2 million for PS2's extra 8 months in Japan. PS2 sold close to 19 million in 2005. PS2 was showing some insane legs going into its twilight years. It was still pulling consistent 200k plus weeks basically up until 2008. |
I may have got this wrong but I am doing it year by year and the ps2 would be at 19 of june 2004 if it was on the market the same length of time as the wii has.
which brings it to 63,493,619
PS2
year 1 27 mar 2000 to 3 mar 2001 7,227,310
year 2 4 mar 2001 to 2 mar 2002 17,448,635
year 3 3 mar 2002 to 1 mar 2003 21,453,530
year 4 2 mar 2003to 6 mar 2004 19,085,049
2.5 months 7 mar 2004 to 19 june 2004 3,279,095
total 68,493,61
wii
year 1 19 nov 2006 to 24 nov 2007 15,038,868
year 2 25 nov 2007 to 22 nov 2008 21,421,973
year 3 23 nov 2008 to 28 nov 2009 21,192,363
year 4 29 nov 2009 to 27 nov 2010 19,751,703
2.5 months 28 nov 2010 to 12 feb 2011 7,589,032
total 84,993,939
I have a graph here on my screen but it wont paste into my post so, you put the data into a spreadsheet and create it yourselves.
it's amazing how similar they look.
correct me if I am wrong

I love a good civilised debate (but only if we can learn something).
Its ahead lifetime but it'll be a long time before the Wii hits 150 million (and it won't)

You're going off of the Japanese launch. That's why I said subtract about 2 million for the extra 9 months there. It didn't launch in the west until October and November 2000. Although I think I should have lined up weeks slightly better since it wasn't the exact same week in the west.
I think a more interesting question is... how is the Wii doing right now vs the PS2, in month to month sales aligned.
Is it still above the PS2 overall or is it below... is the PS2 catching up? The Wii seems to be doing weak, but it may just be due to the PS3 and 360 not sucking it up like the Gamecube and XBox.
Edit: For just this last week it's 150,000 for wii vs 378,000 for PS2 in 2005 for example. Suggesting a PS3 "comeback" unless I screwed something up, which is totally possible since i did it rather half heartidly.
