Forums - Gaming Discussion - Mario is the best video gaming character of all time-Official

It's been quite the bumper year for the Italian plumber. Not only did he celebrate his 25th birthday, have parties, speeches, one of the best rated games of all time, 4 great classics released, smashed sales records and bundled with Nintendo's consoles last year, but he was also voted the best videogaming character of all time last year by readers of Guiness World Records.

Now, the list seems very American to me (anyone remember last year where Halo was voted the best gaming franchise of all time, the COD, then Zelda, then Guitar Hero, then Mario?), but it seems a bit fairer. See if you agree:

Interesting to see over a fifth of the characters are from Nintendo games, yet Luigi doesn't make the list...

Poor luigi

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

It would be highly suspect if Mario wasn't number one.  Love Link at number 2 as well (although he's my personal fav), but Master Chief at number 3?  Gimme a break!  Nothing personal against Master Chief or Halo but there's easily over a dozen others that should be higher than him as a character, IMO (Snake, Drake and Yoshi to name only a few).  But I certainly don't agree with Cloud being that high either.

Also, too bad about poor Luigi... nowhere to be found in the entire top 50?  And Sackboy should be much, much higher as well.

Reverse Snake with Chief, at the very least.  But I guess if we're going by straight popularity, then fine.  If you count the characters who are associated with Sony, there is probably more than Nintendo's, but only 6 without I think.  Still not bad.

Sephiroth didn't make it all that far.

YES.

Snake should be number 3.

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

TV - Deadwood

Music - Forest Swords
