NO NO NO NO NO! Don't go there, don't chuck a Microsoft spaz! Add MORE stuff to gaming, not take it away from other gamers!

Huh?

What's to "huh" about?

Exclusive content is annoying. End of. Even more so when it's "timed" exclusive content...

Couldn't agree more.  Tons here used to call MS out for this stuff and it deserves to be called out here as well.  If its multiplatform, ALL of it should be multiplatform.  The only advantages should be based on what a console has (Blu Ray vs multi disc, preference for 360 controller, etc), not moneyhatting exclusive content.

THIS x10.

So what Sony wants to do is ... basically the same what Microsoft did the last years.

Lame.

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

Ironicaly developers that cut out content to keep a game on so many disks do it for both games instead of leaving it on ps3 which has the extra space

Well for me personally who has a PS3 only, it's good stuff that I get to play the exclusive content like Batman Arkham Asylum, Red Dead Redemption, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, etc.

But I wonder if that helps with selling more PS3 copies. I haven't kept up with the trends but maybe it's starting to work as the gap between the two versions of ACB is considerably lower than it was for ACII.

Not that I'm complaining and they should just continue with thtat.

I think the reason for the growth in AC:B sales is due to the exclusive advertising that Sony gets in terms of the franchise, whenever I've seen any AC adverts they were always only advertised in such a way that someone who is uninformed would have to double check to see whether it's coming out on 360. But then again, 360 has COD and had FF13 whereas Sony also had Fifa. I think exclusive advertising and the development of brand awareness in EMEAA is the reason for the growth in sales rather than the timed exclusive content.

Overall I don't think it's the best route to go down and is a bit disappointing to see the companies stoop so low as to pay millions just to have some DLC for a month longer than the competition, yes I am looking at you COD map packs, money that could otherwise be used to purchase developers such as the recently disbanded Bizzare games etc.

Exclusive content on Multi platform games just ruin the experience for the gamer IMO, and rarely tends to compell users to purchase the system in favour of the other, if anything it just helps multi platform owners to decide for which system to purchase the game for, but I don't think that the multi owners are a significant amount to have such a large impact upon sales.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

Guess this'll push me toward PS3 multiplats even more. They're getting what they want out of me, that's for sure.

Totally agree.

Not worth it imo.

Exclusive games are OK, this - not so much. The only reason not to bring content to other platforms is because someone paid money for exclusivity, which is most probably not adding to the experience of that specific platform but instead crippling that of the others. DLC and such should cost practically nothing to release on all platforms instead of just one, unlike porting a whole game. In this case, the base work (the game) has already been done on all platforms.

Lame, so lame. I liked Sony quite a bit before this gen but I think I really hate them now. I think PC is the only platform I don't hate, and that's because there isn't a greedy giant corporation controlling every aspect of it and doing stuff like this.

Interview with Sony's Scott McCarthy.

"The battle for 3rd party exclusives seems to be dwindling down this generation. More 3rd parties are choosing the multiplatform route. You guys have a few in your lineup — No More Heroes and Ar Tonelico 3 come to mind. Is Sony still working with 3rd parties to secure exclusives or…?

We work very closely with our 3rd parties publishers, not necessarily to lock down games exclusively, but to lock up exclusive parts of games. A good example is Batman: Arkham Asylum, where you could only play as the Joker on PlayStation 3. When you make a title exclusive, you limit its promotional power; we don’t want to do that. We want games to be as big as possible — it’s great for the industry. However, we want to make sure that you play it on the best system possible, so we like to take parts of games and make them exclusive to the PlayStation system."

The complete interview can be read here:

gee I don't see the PS fans complaining to this as much as they did early in the gen when MS was doing the same thing. What did they call it, money hatting?
