Forums - Microsoft - WP7 generating revenue comparable to Android for games

http://wmpoweruser.com/despite-the-size-of-the-market-developers-can-already-make-more-money-on-wp7-than-android/

We have had some very interesting stats via Xyologic showing that, despite the small size of the Windows phone 7 marketplace, developers can already earn more money on the new platform, due to two important factors – Windows Phone 7 users are more prepared to pay for apps, and prices are a lot higher on Windows Phone 7 than Android.

For the three apps which appear in the top 15 list according to Xyologic, the revenue from the Windows phone 7 apps are regularly close or even higher.

Even Need for Speed, which saw 600% more downloads on Android than Windows phone 7, only had 50% more earnings, and of course Windows Phone 7 had the old version of Need for Speed, while Android had the latest version.

The Android stats are also from the holiday season December 2010, while the stats for Windows phone 7 is from January 2011.

The message is clearly that there is no need to take the wait and see approach – if you are considering selling an app on Android, you may as well consider Windows phone 7 also.  You may even earn more.

Those numbers are without advertising though, so I don't know if they hold up. But I don't know if these games even have ads on Android, so the comparison becomes even harder to verify.

But still, pretty impressive for WP7 considering the user base is only a fraction of Android's.

Having games for Xbox Live with achievements on the WP7 REALLY helps IMO.

I personally would rather pay for a game if its an Xbox live one then get the same game for free without Xbox live.

Makes sense...

WP7 marketplace is still in its infancy so there is less choice. Combine that with the fact that a lot of people run custom roms and don't pay for apps/games on android and you get results listed above...despite the userbase of WP7 is probably 1/20th of all the Androids

However, that is all negated by the fact that you're using a WP7. I mean wtf.

EDIT for lower OT comment:

Considering greater majority of Android revenue is from ads, not really [impressive]. Why do you think the prices are cheaper?

I don't know what you are trying to say...but if its what I think it is...why don't you do something productive and go see if there is a new custom rom you can flash your Droid with? Maybe you will get Netflix streaming with the next update...

that's kinda misleading cause most android apps are ad supported.. so it's a different money making model.. cause we already learned that nobody actually buys an android app compared to the iPhone..  so most companies switch their strategy a while ago.. and lol.. who in the world would make an Android or WP7 app first? the money is with Apple.. fruit ninja sold over 2 million..

WP7 apps are ad supported as well...free ones however. The ones you pay for have no ads.

As far as Iphone being the platform lead choice for apps...thats no contest really. Unless you're Netflix, Raphsody or similar...since because of the new subscription model, they have to pay Apple 30% more of the revienue simply because user is streaming their content through an iOS device.
