Forums - Sony - NGP and PSP to co-exist, hinting at a high NGP price?

http://www.destructoid.com/sony-ngp-and-psp-to-co-exist-194022.phtml

So, Sony shall continue to go down the route of just producing consoles for however long they want...

Now this is all speculation, but does this mean a ludicrously high price for NGP? Look here:

"I think the NGP needs time to mature and get adopted by users. So, for the time being, both platforms will coexist,"

What does "time to mature" mean exactly? Does it mean that the price is high so they don't see it selling well? Are Sony waiting for a price-drop? They did the same thing with the PS3, and it worked well for the PS2, but the high price and lack of games library hurt the PS3 in early years, coupled with a late release.

Will Sony do it again? Or have they learnt that great graphics high price=lower sales?

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

It's actually impossible NGP will cost less than 300$, and since the PSP is significantly cheaper than that, it was obvious they would have never discontinued it. But, since PSP is selling not that good, things will get worse after 3DS and NGP launch, so don't expect many units sold in 2012...

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

If Sony can have a steady stream of quality games, like the PS2 did and the PS3 currently has, the NGP can be priced at $300 to $350 and Sony should be able to sell a high enough volumes to keep third parties on board.

Another thing that Sony is doing that they didn't originally do with PS3 is they are open. They aren't shutting developers out when they may need help. That is what turned the tide against Sony in the first place. They rejected helping and Microsoft came in and showed they were willing to help developers learn the 360.

So launching with at least 20 games (new games at retail), with the backlog of the PlayStation Store, at $324.99 is what I see for the NGP's launch.

....that and Sony will have the official name for it on the system by then.

Well dropping the PSP to $100 and the PSP Go to $125 would do wonders in keeping it around. Sony could also start pushing the Go more, since it's in a similar situation as the NGP will be. They both don't play UMD's.

i hope not...or is it really Sonys strategy? "we dont care about the production costs and loss of every unit sold we just want to make the best technical device and put it out when the rival put their out"

uhhh that's the point dude, the ps3 had a weak library of games, high price BECAUSE it was in it's early years, just like the ps2 when it released with the ps1 still in the market.

Will Sony do it again? Or have they learnt that great graphics high price=lower sales?

and who da fuck cares, psp so how much? oh I forgot the only way to ever be considered to have sold well is to outsell Nintendo, it's clearly the only reason anyone would make a handheld

or have you people not learned yet that Sony has not, does not, and will not, give a fuck about the "expanded market"

...really? No backwards compatability?

Also, agreed. There needs to be compelling games to push it, and for me, the connectivity isn't doing it for me. And when it's likely to be $100 higher than its rival at launch, when its rival has 3D, a name behind it and time on the market to grab early adopters, it's once again looking uphill for Sony :/

Bolded for ease

I made a thread about how something should be judged to be a success, I'm only commenting on the article and adding my view...

If Sony wants to be competitive, they NEED to care about the expanded market...it's the only way they can survive

All consoles have a weak library of games at lauch, of course. But you should push the games you have at launch...

At any rate, it's too early to speculate. We know next to nothing about it, after all!

Besides digital and other content saved to your Memory Stick, then no it doesn't. Of course over the last year I've purchased about 95% of my games from the PStore. So it wouldn't bother me to much. I'll still have my PSP-2000 around if I want to play any of my 50 to 60 games on UMD.

I was actually thinking about buying a Go over the holiday season, but wanted to wait to see if Sony was going to officially announce the PSP2.

no they don't, the ps1 and ps2 didn't give a shit about the expanded market and they are the only home consoles in gaming history to have dominated their respective markets, did the wii ever have 75% market share, did the wii ever disrupt 3rd party game development for competing console, has the wii ever slowed the gains of the competing console (how big are it's yoy decreases by comparison?) answer NOPE, all the wii has ever done was appeal to the "expanded market" which has been VERY successful IN IT'S OWN RIGHT

All consoles have a weak library of games at lauch, of course. But you should push the games you have at launch...

as you siad still left to be seen, but given the rather easy development for the device and almost universal praise for developers I'd wager we are looking at a good launch come E3.

At any rate, it's too early to speculate. We know next to nothing about it, after all!

tell that to all the DOOOOMERS out there lol
