Forums - PC Discussion - Civ 4's theme song Baba Yetu wins Grammy (The Lord's Prayer)

I find this a beautiful song, and found out from the gamrfeed on here, it won a Grammy.  Here is the song:

I see this, and see the translation and go HUH?

Apparently the translation of the song is a variation on the Our Father prayer (Christian Lord's Prayer) in Swahili.

Why did it win a grammy this year? It is pretty old song.

What an awesome coincidence.  Fox News is being all anti-gamer and has folks saying games make us rape and the first videogame anything to win a Grammy is a christian song.  The world will sleep in peace tonight.

It likely recently became part of an album that was nominated.  It won the award for best intrumentals with a vocal song or something like that.  I read it is supposed to be a native song that is VERY old, beyond it being old because it was part of Civ 4.

Lovely piece of music, wonderful singing too.

Probably, they were finally introduced to Hentai games?

I always hated that song, just like I always hated The Lion King's music. You could easily put Baba Yetu in a Lion King musical and let papier-maché gazelles and giraffes dance to it. African minstrel show.

My favourite Civ tune will forever be http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ied7NL4nDBI

You mean like someone did here with Baba Yetu?

Hey, I like the Lion King.

It's a great song.  I've put on Civ 4 a lot just to listen to the song.

The Civ 1 SNES theme is awesome too.

If anyone wants to complain about the Christian meaning, i'd just say

Shut up, you wouldn't of known anyway, and besides it wasn't used for any particular religious meaning, and just because it was a great song that fit civilization.

Besides, the way Religions work in Civilization 4 are rather hilarious and somewhat insulting.  They spread like virus weather you want them too or not, main motivation is to cause external strife among neighbors and later on make money.

Actually, I think it was about Bulletstorm.

Edit: yeah... bulletstorm.
