@ Mr Khan I don't see how Kurenai's character was destroyed. If anything, what happened gives her the juicy backstory that Asuma didn't have. She has to raise a child alone and the man she loves is gone. This actually can make her a tougher character.

I feel like her character was destroyed because her genjutsu got owned by itachi's lol. Now shes just "the mother of asumas son" When she could have been "the best genjutsu ninja in the leaf" Since no one else is any good at genjutsu anymore.

This, mostly. Given my fandom of Other M, i don't like to pitch the sexist card that easily, but when one of your few strong female characters is reduced to strictly "the pregnant chick," losing all of her badassery in the process, i would think that calls for ruination

When was she ever Badass?
She's only ever used one Justu... and it doesn't work half the time she uses it.
She was about as Badass as Sakura or Ino.
She never really gave off a badass vibe, or a "I'm dangerous" vibe.
She was consistantly portrayed as the weakest Jonin group leader by far who's only strongpoint was that she was the best at the least utilized kind of Jutsu in the series.
Having a kid basically was a natural development for her character and personality.
Now if this was Anko on the otherhand... i'd see your problem.

I suppose you're right. Her character was about as undeveloped as Asuma's when we ran into that arc (though both her and Asuma were more developed if you count filler, she got an Arc in the pre-shippuden mass filler, just like he got the one right before he died), rather i disapproved of where they took her character
It's not so much that she got pregnant, but by doing so she became someone that Shikamaru has to protect, as if she's helpless now or something. Obviously i'm aware that violence during the pregnancy could impact the child so you're not going to be the same, but it's like conception just sucked 100% of the power right out of her, her potential as a shinobi reduced entirely to child-bearer and burden for the men. It's chickification taken to its furthest extreme
And i suppose that's what bugged me the most. She had potential, and that's how they chose to develop her

See... I don't think that qualfies because she never really did show off her action credentials too much in the first place. I put her in the Ino, Sakura category but slightly more accomplished.
She was pretty much the only teacher who never got to do ANYTHING. All she did was provide expostion... free up other characters so they could do the interesting stuff when the colisiuem happened... and that was it. I don't even think they really hinted that she'd be badass because they gave her Genjutsu as what she was good at.
Genjutsu was always destined to be portrayed as underpowered because none of the main characters had any genjutsu chops at all... and really if it wasn't underpowered it would be overpowered.
I mean, come to think of it... none of the Ninja's in Naruto's age group even use genjutsu do they?
Besides, considering her general attitude was always a "motherly like attidue" towards her cadets... could you picture her in combat much and how it would flow?
I don't really think they did a bad job with her character. All the adult female Ninjas are fine....
The younger ones though.... I mean, my god... why the hell was Sakura even a Ninja Pres- Shippudan? She didn't do ANYTHING except get her ass kicked and cry... and do that trick where she becomes a log...
Like the most useful thing she does the entire time is bite someone while getting punched in the head. I mean, everyone else had a freaking talent or signature technique... she didn't have anything, and she was one of the most used characters!
