I put her in the Ino, Sakura category but slightly more accomplished. She was pretty much the only teacher who never got to do ANYTHING. All she did was provide expostion... free up other characters so they could do the interesting stuff when the colisiuem happened... and that was it. I don't even think they really hinted that she'd be badass because they gave her Genjutsu as what she was good at. Genjutsu was always destined to be portrayed as underpowered because none of the main characters had any genjutsu chops at all... and really if it wasn't underpowered it would be overpowered. I mean, come to think of it... none of the Ninja's in Naruto's age group even use genjutsu do they? Besides, considering her general attitude was always a "motherly like attidue" towards her cadets... could you picture her in combat much and how it would flow? I don't really think they did a bad job with her character. All the adult female Ninjas are fine....
The younger ones though.... I mean, my god... why the hell was Sakura even a Ninja Pres- Shippudan? She didn't do ANYTHING except get her ass kicked and cry... and do that trick where she becomes a log... Like the most useful thing she does the entire time is bite someone while getting punched in the head. I mean, everyone else had a freaking talent or signature technique... she didn't have anything, and she was one of the most used characters! |
I don't know, Sakura i've liked because she was the badass normal, as it were. Everyone else got their powers through legacy or something they were given (Kyuubi), everyone (out of the younger set) except for Sakura, Lee, and Tenten (possibly) who got where they were on their own. In Sakura's case that made her weak as fuck in the first set, but she had the kind of good sense and pure grasp of the fundamentals that both Naruto and Sasuke lacked (as we can recall from that walking-up-trees traning excercise), and she made her strength on her own, though recently she's gone back to useless, but that's because the manga's slipped somewhat into god mode of late
Maybe i misinterpreted Kurenai's character? idk, but the original point i made was that that arc bugged me for those reasons, though i agree that Shikamaru's beatdown on Hidan was epic

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
