With the 8th generation approaching I'm wondering what company may join the console wars. Apple have had intentions on joining, it would be more intriguing seeing the likes of Samsung and LG joining in. Remember many did not suspect that Microsoft would take that leap, but they did and they were/are successful in that market.

What a sorry state of affairs that would be.

I don't know if Apple will join console gaming but maybe portable.

But you know what's interesting? This generation is the only generation where there has been no new comer in the console gaming business! 

considering that current rumours suggest that apple TV is going to get apps I think Apple are just about to jump in lol. 

I think Samsung is the only other company big enough to launch a competitive gaming console, with the technical experties and supply chain to deliver one. They already make a bunch of components for consoles anyway lol so they could make most of it in house to lower costs. I could see it happening.

The failed EVO smart and the console for developing markets the Zeebo say hi... lol just because none of them are very successful doesn't mean they don't exist...

Apple is a far stronger beast now than it was then.

I personally think Apple will play around the fringes of console gaming without fully comitting to it.

Samsung? I don't see it. I am no great "prospector" but any company trying to compete directly with the current three, regardless of their financial muscle, is facing a serious battle and not many, if any, would even seriously consider it.

MS jumped in with an failure but since they have billions lying around they stuck at it when many give up. 

Apple wont go into the home console market and focus on there mobile market because they dont have 1st party devs, current gaming model only works on phones and web based platforms and they would need some money and marketing to pull consumers away from the big established 3. 

But Apple could come in and fail then if they follow MS will get it right after building up an 1st and 3rd party suite for there next venture. 

i think apple behind the scenes could be building the hardware for an apple console and see if they can have the apple magic they have like their iphones, ipods and ipad etc  but  dont forget lenovo has their console that was relased first in china fall of 2010  and sometime this year their supposly going to release it to north america and other countries this year so their your fourth contender incoming

the Wii rip off lol, isn't it the one with all the sensors attached to your body. 

Also i would like to point out "Apple Pricing" how is apple going to go with Apple Pricing. There console would be like 1500 dollars.
