I went into the local Best Buy store in the town that I am working in this week and I found this:

I live near chicago and it is the same way at wal-mart. Have not went to best buy though.

The sign was just about some accessory package deal...  Nothing about instock.

Just to add a bit of info, if you look at the left side of the picture, you can see that they have plenty of Kinect stand alone units in stock...

which means it's new customers buying xbox's and not existing customers.  It's the same way by me, no xbox's but atleast over 5 stand alone kinects.

And yet it sold 140K units last week in the US , Kinect did the miracle , it has exceeded everybody's expectations .. I mean it ,every single person on this planet .

well....there's a good amount of 360S/kinect bundles where I live here and Stamford, CT. I live by two gamestops, FYE, and Target. all of them have the 360s/kinect bundles in stock.

for the record, not doubting the shortages, but it could be that it's a better seller where you live

The thing is, shortages doesn't mean nothing, so the majority of people that say "Ha I saw a pile of xbox's in my local store, so there can't be shortages" need to shut up (not you).

Most don't know what normal level of inventory stores have of xbox's, so while 6 xbox's on a shelf in a store might look like a lot, perhaps there should be 8 - 10. MS has stock going out, but not as much as they and retailers would like, which has been said all along.
