I can gurantee anyone, ANYONE that this game would sell far better in the West than in Japan, and that it's likely it'd be a million-seller. So let's hope they do the right thing

1 million?  I think that's rather ambitious.  Just curious, but outside of FF, what JRPG has sold over a million copies in America this gen?

I don't think the comparisons with Blue Dragon really do TLS any favors.

The Wii userbase is actually 50 times larger than the 360 was when Blue Dragon launched.  Blue Dragon also boosted hardware sales from 4,460 to 37,821.  Userbase doesn't mean as much when they get larger, but the 360 base was so tiny you really couldn't have expected much better for Blue Dragon.

It also had pretty decent legs throughout the holiday season, so it'll be fairly tough for TLS to beat its total sales.

Or it could be that the appeal of these games really is that small. Look at the sales of new IP RPGs in Japan, and it bears that out.

Appeal doesn't equal sales.  A lot of games appeal to me, but I didn't buy them for a # of reasons (ie. lack of time, doesn't own the console that they are released on, etc).  I'm sure that the appeal of this game is much greater than the what the sales #'s reflect.  TLS appeals to me, but I don't own a Wii.  So I may not end up getting it.

I meant appeal in the context of what makes sales, and what can limit sales.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

None. But I mean Worldwide. For Example, let's look at Lost Odyessey:

I mean, looking at that, it'd be foolish to leave it IN japan. Mistwalker know that, and hopefully Nintendo know that so we can all buy this great game as well

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

@those who are talking about ports- It's a Wii game. You can say all you like and make your own, valid reasoning, but that isn't going to change, for better or for worse

You´re probably right about that, so I ask, assuming it´s released in the West and sells far better..when a Japanese RPG, made by the father of Final Fantasy, released on a system that doesn´t have an insignificant userbase, performs (much) better in the West...what´s up with Japan, Conegamer?

New RPG IP trumps those other factors. Establishing itself is what is needed for greater sales.

Pretty much. There's nothing up with Japan. But it isn't a key market, and it certainly isn't a good place to have an exclusive IP in Japan in such a competitive market, that's for sure

So releasing it in the west is the much safer optin-you're almost guaranteed better sales, and judging from the immense levels of hype and previous sales from the dev, it's not infeasible to see 1million sales, if not more, if there is a Worldwide release for this game in the next 12 months

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

What a bad news, I hoped the second week would be better for this RPG.

So, 133.900 in two weeks. That's reality :(

115.000 for the first week (Xenoblade did 83.000)

Haha

http://www.vgchartz.com/worldtotals.php?name=&publisher=&console=&genre=RPG&minSales=0&results=500&sort=Total

PSx jrps, arranged by worldwide sales for all RPGs, come in at positions

9 11 21 28

Same thing for DS

3 8 19 23 26 38 41 44

JRPGs are more alive than they ever have been.

Yeah, no.

Take out of that list Pokemon and Mario games and... any other game that don't have a damn story... how many do you get?

Now, pepole who are "JRPG fans" are usually fans of the genre because of the fact that JRPGs used to have great stories, and they say the genre is dead because there are almost no more JRPGs with great, engaging stories.

Games like Final Fantasy Tactics, Xenogears, Chrono Trigger, Suikoden 2 etc etc.

Although Pokemon and the Mario games are JRPG in their genre because of their battle system, they don't share the same userbase and the same fans with games like Final Fantasy, Xenowhatever etc etc.

Lol

So the genre you were looking for is Story Base Japanese Role Playing Games That RageBot Likes

SBJRPGTRBL

Comments from Nintendo suggest that it will go westward either way, because Iwata has the belief that the future of JRPGs lies westward

piss-poor legs on this one though. If we can say week-one sales were 69% of stock, this would mean that we're still running on launch shipment

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

That is also the "genre" that jonager, or pretty much 99% of anyone who actually refers to the genre "JRPG" would like.

kthxbye <3

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.
