LONG VERSION! WARNING WORDS! READING IS HARD! Yet, I cannot get excited for the 3DS, or the NGP even though I owned a PSP and a DS. Because I know exactly what handhelds are becoming. Wannabe consoles. Just like how consoles want to be like PC's without the ease of use and internet porngraphy, handhelds are now taking away what made them great over console counterparts with basically ""meh, screw it, everybody does the same thing."" I love the new graphics, I love the downloadable titles to the systems, but I don't like... Shorter battery life. Higher prices for hardware and software. Console ports on handhelds. Region locking. All these are a serious problem, I don't want to spend that much money because its a handheld and it should COST LESS, I know I can get the games elsewhere being some are ports, the shorter battery life means I won't take the system anywhere, lastly that amazing door that open to the vast library that the DS offered is now closed and chained off. Wow, I legally buy your product and you punish the customer, thanks Nintendo. I don't want a portable console. Neither should anyone of us if the consquence of the new ""handhelds"" is us to pay more for less. |
It's way too early to despair. The great thing about 3DS and NGP is that they can provide both. You can make short pick up fully portable in nature games and you can make longer console like games.
Battery life sadly is something we have to live with. I mean that technology is old and all the groundbreaking technology jumps already happened for batteries. Also battery life will be better in next refreshes of NGP /3 DS after 28nm production process comes in 2011/2012.
Region lock is bad but we might see some not official ways of dealing with it. Also there's still chance that NGP will be region free (as it starts from position of underdog it needs to be more consumer friendly)
