Forums - General - After experiencing Blu Ray do you think you can ever go back to DVD?

I made the switch to Blu Ray 2 years ago - I won't replace my DVD collection, but every new movie I buy, is on Blu Ray (~90 so far).

I agree that it's hard to go back - at first you don't really notice the huge increase in quality, but when you watch a DVD again everything seems blurry all of a sudden. Though there are some DVDs that look pretty good when they're upscaled (e.g. LotR) and some BRs that look bad (e.g. 11:14), most DVDs just can't compete.

Always the HD version if its available!

I wildly prefer Bluray in most cases. I noticed that regular DVD's are fuzzy and don't look nearly as good on an HD-TV. However I note that not every scene in some movies are in High Def, I noticed fuzz in a few films though that might just be their artistic direction or the camera's their using.

For me when I saw the FBI warning at the beginning of my first BluRay I went holy crap this image is sharp. I have compared my Blurays to DVD and they are vastly superior. However I own alot of DVD's and since my BluRay player plays DVD's I won't be rebuying the films in BluRay.

So yah I can watch DVD's they aren't horrible. But I don't buy them anymore they in my mind just aren't worth the money when I can get a BluRay for 5 bucks more.

HD or STD

The long and short of it is if the HD content was not still considered a premium then the answer would be HD unless of course obtaining the HD content was more lengthy in which case I revert back to STD.

Currently although I do have access to HD discs and HD streaming services the price is the reason I watch very little HD content. On the BBC at the moment they are broadcasting the "Human Planet" which is the new "Planet Earth" which I am currently watching in STD I however have the HD version of Planet Earth which I know was awesome and I was willing to pay the premium for. This is also on BBC HD but I do not have access to this channel currently unless I upgrade to a Freeview HD box or FreeSat HD which although free at point of delivery still means investment in hardware.

Actually,  thinking about it.

Unless i'm watching a football game, when I have the chance on network TV I actually choose the SD feed over the HD one.
