Agreed, word of the year says it best. wOOt!!

Awesome, I'll definitely have to see this! I hope they get the story good and I agree on they should use Peter Jackson's world just to keep everything together with it and the LOTR films. I hate how in Harry Potter the castle and the locations are completely different every time and the appearance of the characters.

^^'' Great news...

Sweet!! I love the LotR trilogy, and can't wait for this! Though I would definitely be disappointed if it did end up like the HP movies, the most recent ones could have been so much better.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

An "Executive Producer" is someone who gets paid to put their name on a film. They don't actually do anything.

I'm so happy ...

I've seen the press release from the hobbit blog, and they aren't splitting the Hobbit up. Supposedly, it is a sequel to the Hobbit that occurs before LOTR.

* MGM and New Line will co-finance and co-distribute two films, “The Hobbit” and a sequel to “The Hobbit.” New Line will distribute in North America and MGM will distribute internationally.

But what could the sequel be?

Several things:

Phillepa Boyens' and Fran Walsh's extension of the story of how Aragorn and Arwen met and fell in love, which will be fleshed out. It gets about 2 paragraphs in the appendices of RotK. The chicks will eat it up.

The White Council's fight against the Necromancer (actually Sauron) at Dol Guldur, assuming that Christopher Lee is still alive and can play Saruman once filming gets going on it. Actually, I hugely anticipate this plotline (if it happens.) Would be great to see Saruman the White as a bad-ass good guy before the lust for the Ring poisoned him (though still proud and haughty, as that is also part of his downfall.)

Frodo's birth and adoption.

Gandalf and Aragorn's pursuit of Gollum into Mirkwood.

Possibly some goings-on in Rohan and Gondor (Aragorn fought in the wars with Thengel, Theoden's father, and Gandalf visited Denethor and the boys fairly often back in the old days.)

There's enough there for a pretty good prequel if Peter, Fran, and Phillepa don't do anything silly.

So say we all, yo.

I'm also looking forward to the sequence where the trolls get frozen into stone at the exact same spot and positions where we see them on the set of Fellowship of the Ring and Sam says "Look, Frodo, Mr. Bilbo's trolls!"

May just give me a chill or two.

So say we all, yo.

Finally.

I have been waiting for this my entire life.

Next: Build an actual life size replica of Minas Tirith.

And the Harry Potter movie comment you made... yeah. Way too true. So I guess after I build Minas Tirith, I'll have to finance the remake of the Harry Potter movies, then my life can be complete.

no no no! Remake Prydain Chronicles! Please! Seriously, read the book and then go watch the Disney movie, Black Cauldron, they slaughtered it even worse than anything that ever happened to LotR!

The Harry Potter books are gettign too long to turn into single movies. they needed to either go the LotR route and lt the movie be 3 hours long or they needed to take 2 books and split it into 3 movies, or even 4 movies.

but on topic, I'm really glad about this too. I kinda hope they reuseor pay a homage of some sort to the songs back from the Rankin Bass version. I know most of them were really corny, but they were fun memories, and I never would have gotten into LotR at all if it hadn't been for the Hobbit.

Also, one particular worry that I have is that they're going to make Hobbit too serious. Hobbit was 100x lighter in mood that LotR was.
