Hmm...I don't like Sony as much as you think. If Sony did what MS did this gen I would have hated them as well. Its the act that counts, not the name. Its one of the reasons I don't dislike nintendo (I actually like their staff cause they are quite down to earth compared to Sony and MS.) even though I don't own a single nintendo console. 360 will have support, but not from MS, but from 3rd party. I don't think they will stop selling the 360 like the original xbox though. |
I think the big flaw with your first analysis is the fact that chances are the next Xbox will also be Backward compatible, thus cutting the 360 legs right underneath it, if MS are in the mood to listen to the 360 owners, they'll also allow the gamertags to be transferred to the new console. If anything I think Xbox Live will continue going strong similar to the case when Original Xbox live kept going until several months ago.
If you meant the new games being 360 compatible, chances are the companies will also to do that seeing as it'll likely be cheap ports like the games on PS2

Data shows X360 with more total sales and even as of last week higher weekly sales. So data doesn't show the PS3 as winning.
Has the PS3 done a good job of reducing the X360's initial lead? Absolutely. Does that mean the PS3 is currently the better seller? Not at all.

I agree, I didn't mean it will have zero support, just no support from MS. MS can't control the third party. They will likely move on to the next generation.

yeah with a 60m install base that really gonna happen seriously the only loser (if there has to be one... I dont think there has to be one this gen btw) is Sony. they collapsed from a very very lofty 1st to also rans. |
60m install base.
They haven't even shipped that much. But if you are talking about future, sure, as I said, I am talking about MS support, not the third party support.
Sony is definitely a loser this gen. I mean, not only did they lose the blu-ray - HD DVD war, they are also going to be 3rd place this gen as well. We are hardly getting any exclusives from Sony this year too. No support :(
Sony said "This generation doesn't start until we launch" therefor the 360 lead was irrelevant to them.

I think the installbase of 70 m is too big to ignore for third parties, a quick port and probably about 100-200k will justify the porting costs and some profit on top. What I don't see is anymore first party games coming similar in the case of PS3 exclusives not making an appearance on PS2.
Bottom line is, 3rd parties will make the games for the next gen and will make crappy ports for X360 and PS3 like PS2, see World At War, Fifas etc.

Do you pay attention at all? Because apparently you can't read.

"Sony is in fact winning", "So data doesn't show the PS3 as winning".
That was a bit of a premature judgement by you.
"Does that mean the PS3 is currently the better seller? Not at all."
^ I think that links to the last weeks numbers.

For fuck sake READ!!!!!!! From LAUNCH!!!! PS3 is outselling the 360
Yes the 360 has more total sales at this time (it had a year head start) and YES the 360 had a better week this last week. Your not seeing the point here.
