Forums - Gaming - Should I reeducate my older brother?

My brother(technically half-brother) grew up with his mother, and he wasn't an active part of my life until about 2 years ago.  Now he's over at my place about once or twice a month.  As we were brought up in two completely homes, you can imagine that our gaming experiences are very different.  For instance; he had a PS1 and N64 as I had a N64 and, he had a DC, PS2 and GC while I had a DC and GC.  If you're seeing a trend, you can see that he's a fan of Playstation.

He has said in several occasions, "Sony has the best" and "Sony is amazing."  Despite this, he didn't get a PS3 until about a week ago.  Before that, we have played several games on my 360 and my Wii.  He never displayed an interest in getting either a 360 or Wii.  He hasn't had the time to play games like I've had.

I have to say though, he doesn't seem to know much about this gen.  He was actually surprised to see Sonic '06 on 360.  In his words, "Shouldn't Sonic be on Wii and Nintendo consoles?"  I replied "Sonic's pretty much on everything with a screen these days."   He then murmured "I thought Wii was the family and kids console and the 360 was the console for teenagers to blow stuff up."

That had me thinking, should I inform him more in the workings and history of this gen?  Should I let him learn himself?  He seems to still think of things in a very  6th gen way.  He thinks Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell fanbases are at war and that the PS3 is heavily superior to the 360.  He's also a very vocal Final Fantasy, King of Fighters and Need for Speed fan.  I'm afraid he just might get KoFXII or NFS:MW and be disappointed.  Help please.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Yes, and for a more convincing and effective re-education, take this:

let him join this site... we will teach him! *shakes fist*

Yeah.. I don't see that happening.

Tell him all the stuff as it comes up. I don't think there's any need for you to actually sit down with him and talk all this stuff over. Find out what games he wants, and guide him from there or something.

Meh just point him to demon's souls, Uncharted, Infamous, God of War, Motorstorm, while you get the idea

No. Share games you like, as you've been doing. He doesn't need to know more than what games would best suit his tastes.

Well, they can't be at war when the PS3 is getting the Spliter Cell trilogy... and explaining the advantages and disadvantages between the 360 and PS3 will actually be a pain. If he is a PS fan and has a PS3 now, don't try changing his tone on games. Just explain to him how each console works, show him good games for his new PS3 and let it be.

LOL the EXACT same story for me and my older (half-)brother last gen. he was into his PS2, i was playing my Cube. (had a PS2, but didnt play with it except the RPGs on it)

today, both of us are PS3 fanboys....

... i feel like i was re-educated back then now...

lol.

RE-EDUCATE HIM TAKE HIM AWAY FROM SONY! MAKE UP FOR MY MISTAKE!!1

no srsly, just explain the situation to him, tell him how it is, that 360 (..*sigh*.. and even Wii.. ) are more than just onesided Consoles, and let him decide then.

I'm a Foreigner, and as such, i am grateful for everyone pointing out any mistakes in my english posted above - only this way i'll be able to improve. thank you!

Strange conclusion, he got all the popular console of those era. Your the one missing PS1 and PS2. He had a N64, DC and GC. The trend is more like you being a nintendo fan :P. I have to admit he has a limited knowledge of this gen though.
