Like it was previously mentionned, White Knight Chronicles 2 will release bundled with the first game which will have upgraded graphics and gameplay so you should definitely wait. And besides, WKC isn't a great game.

I haven't played all of the games on your list but I would personally suggest you to try Eternal Sonata. It's just a great all around JRPG.

OP, I am having the same problem as you. I have been playing a lot of Shooter and hack n slash on the PS3, and for the past 4 days, i have been watching trailer and review of some RPGs. Since most people here seems to be agreed on Valkyria Chronicles, then I guess I will go with this. I wanted to go with Eternal Sonata but the review i saw killed me

Valkyria Chronicles. Skip White Knight Chronicles it's pretty mediocre.

The only one I've played is Valkyria Chronicles and I would whole-heartedly recommend it.  However...

These are what I call the essential JRPGs that I have played, I would get these if you haven't and you need a JRPG to play:

Final Fantasies IV - IX

Chrono Trigger

Xenogears

Paper Mario: TTYD

Tales of Symphonia

The World Ends With You

Final Fantasy Tactics A2

Dragon Quests V and IX

Secret of Mana

All main line Pokemon RPGs

Super Mario RPG

Ogre Battle 64

Skies of Arcadia Legends

Shining Force II

All 3 Golden Suns

Chrono Cross

Soul Blazer

Illusion of Time/Gaia

Terranigma

Eternal Sonata, because the battle system is pretty fun.

Resonance of Fate is very repetitive, I don't recommend even though I finished it.

VC was too slow for my taste, and SO4 was mediocre overall, I didn't find a strong point to keep me playing (thought I would like the battle system because I like "Tales of")
