I'm impressed. This sounds like an amazing combat system. Coupled with the face that there's no subscription, this game sounds really compelling as an MMO. If it's combat is as fluid as they make it sound it could be a must buy for me.

are there any games that offer this? sounds like a pretty stupid system. In most games you can respec change builds skills whatever, but not completly change your class. Never encountered a game like that. |
I think FF14 had that.

so you create a warrior and play with him, then you get bored of him. Insyead of starting a new class you just change to a mage with the press of a button?

You can start by signing up in the official thread.

I doubt it's going to happen, the system has been built too much around having static classes. But like the article says, every class can take on many different roles, so it's not like you're entirely locked up. And even so, you can just play with one character and still see the game. If you only use one character, I'm sure there's still plenty of content to justify the price (with there being no monthly fee and all). And finally, you don't need to redo everything if you create a new character, because the story is built with so many choices that you can play something totally different with a lot of different characters.
There's a bunch of things that let you experience different things and stories throughout the game, so you're not actually just redoing the same stuff over and over. I can show a some video of how much it means with the choices you take if you like.

FF14 has a system like that, and there won't be a similar system in GW2.

I never played the game... .but it was something like each class had armor. So if you wanted to be a mage, then wear mage armor, or if u want to be a warrior, wear warrior armor.
I don't know exactly how it worked. Seemed like the game was a mess at release so it could be completely broken.
Great read! It really shows how much thought they've put into this. And it's so different from the norm, go Anet!
They're really thinking outside the box with some of this stuff. It would seem like they're taking some risks but everything is so transparent. They are slowly telling us about EVERYTHING, and it's a great way to hype up a game.
For a while now, this game has been sounding like a high quality experience, and yet it's free to play. This should help break the (completely wrong) stereotype of "F2P = bad".

Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIV offers this sort of system.
In XI the stat levels are fixed by the job and the level.
In XIV you can set your own stats. If you switch to a different class you can re-spec yourself whenever ya want.
It's very nice. This is one of the main reasons I will not play other MMOs. I don't see the need for me to play multiple characters when I can play a game that allows me to main 1 character and be good at various different things without having to give up all my progression.

Needing to create another character and having to re-do things is stupid and a waste of my time. |
First, because that worked so well for FF14 -.-
Second, you never HAVE to create alts. I went through most of WoW with just my main, a priest. You can do the same for any MMO. If you want to try another class, then do so. Most games are quite successful even without any kind of job changing.
But I think it would be saddest if you avoid the game solely for that, especially if you find other parts interesting.

FF14s job change system is fine. I'm not the type of person who likes to play the same job forever. It gets boring as hell.
