Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIV offers this sort of system.
In XI the stat levels are fixed by the job and the level.
In XIV you can set your own stats. If you switch to a different class you can re-spec yourself whenever ya want.
It's very nice. This is one of the main reasons I will not play other MMOs. I don't see the need for me to play multiple characters when I can play a game that allows me to main 1 character and be good at various different things without having to give up all my progression.
