That is fine, VGChartz themselves admit their methodology isnt perfect it is the fact that the people drone on week after week after week about potential adjustments. The plain and simple fact VGC is doing a remarkable job, if you cant hit a baseball further than the guy you are criticising you shouldnt criticise.
If you are here for the community and the shipped, comment on those, don't comment on the sales numbers it gets bleaten old. You're generally not one of the worse ones when it comes to droning on, so this isn't really aimed at you I will be honest, more replying on a general basis.
The discrepancy between software sales of the PS3 and 360 is simple. Almost 60% of all 360's are sold in the United States. America is the largest consumer economy in the world. We are likely to spend more for our entertainment so it is no surprise that that software sells more on the 360. Just look at the American software sales for specific IPs, it tells the whole story.
The PS3 will end this generation as the second most shipped console, but the 360, by virtue of being an American console and selling more 360's in the US than any other region in the world will almost always sell more software.
I simply don't understand this fight between shipped vs. sold. Sony is not going to ship more consoles than they plan on selling. Simple.
2011 Predictions
Wii: 17m (100 million total)
360: 13m (63 million total)
PS3: 15m (61 million total)

Sony has also shipped more software than MS since 2009.

Um ps3 sold more software then 360 in 2009 and I'm pretty sure they did it in 2010 to (anyone have WW software numbers for 2010) why do people assume 360 sells more software?

I know, thats why Xbox ended up last 2 year in a row
The original post is pointing at a sold number with shipped figures. Always going to be difficult to prove anything one way or another.
Lets suspend belief for a moment and think how this could happen.
Stock - It is highly probable that the PS3 has a higher amount of units in the channel. This is primarily because of how and where the unit are sold. It is because of this spread that they will have to ship more units to more individual distribution agents so this can explain higher numbers of shipped numbers that do not match sold.
At certain points of high demand this figure may drop but I believe it will always have more in the pipe than the 360.
So I cannot disagree that the shipped number gap is what it is what I would question though is trying to translate that number to sold. The other problem is VGC itself and the massive adjustments. These adjustments in my mind make the numbers far less reliable than some give them credit for. The margin of error will be higher but overall I think VGC provides a good early trend indicator.
Lastly I could be wrong but this shipped gap has not really moved much either way it was probably 3 million last year as well.

Kinect as seen by PS3 owners ...if you can pick at it ...post it ... Did I mention the 360 was black and Shinny? When?
2010, 31th March
360: 40.2m
PS3: 35.7m
GAP: 4.5m (360 favor)
2009, 31th December
360: 38.7m
PS3: 33.5m
GAP: 5.2m (360 favor)
The GAP decreased more than 2 million in 2010... not just shipped the VGC GAP decreased about 1.5 million too.
PS3 outsold 360 over 1 million in 2010.
