"Still not returning to large trade show environment

The Entertainment Software Association has announced that the 2008 E3 Media & Business Summit will be returning to the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Except for a two year stint in Atlanta, E3 had been held in Los Angeles from 1995 through 2006.

Last year, the organisers moved the show to Santa Monica and replaced the traditional trade show with a smaller, invite-only series of events.

While the show is now returning to its original venue, it "will not feature the large trade show environment of previous years" according to the ESA.

Like last year, admission will be more restrictive, with invitations determined by participating companies.

"The U.S. is the world's number one video game market and the E3 Media & Business Summit is its premier video game conference. The 2008 Summit will provide a professional and efficient environment for suite-based meetings with media, and other industry leaders," said ESA CEO Michael D. Gallagher.

"We look forward to welcoming the media and top industry executives to a centralized, business focused and personalized experience. Our program of high-level meetings, networking and personal dialogue, and industry-shaping panel discussions will capture the explosive growth we have seen in 2007 and lay the foundation for the 2008 video game marketplace."

The 2008 E3 Media & Business Summit will be held from July 15-17, 2008."

The Philidelphia was not an accident. It was a merciful bullet to the head of a malignant ideology. It was the death of fear and the birth of hope. Rejoice, children of Nod, the blood of your oppressors will flow and fifty years of tyranny will finally end. Transformation is coming. A new day will dawn. The future... is ours

Let's hope it has a better atmosphere than this year. By all accounts, things weren't quite as lively as a lot of people had hoped. Still, I live in Australia. I hope that one day we'll actually get something like E3 down here...

The place is good; let's hope the rest are like the 2006 one.

Sounds like they prefer a quiet business meeting...yet even at their small show this past year it seemed like they were trying to make it what it used to be...saying they plan on growing more for next year.

This is just confusing and stupid.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Yep. I liked the craziness and BANG! of the earlier E3s. The push towards more quiet E3s must have come from third parties like EA, Capcom, Konami, etc.

There should be something to replace the old fashioned E3. Why hasn't anyone done that yet?
