Ioi commented on this already in the "Holy crap" thread that this week did not include the surge and he is already estimating Wii numbers for next week at around 700k.

Bingo. Nintendo held back shipments this week for the huge blitz on Sunday (16th).

No, Nintendo hasn't held back shipments.  Retailers withhold Nintendo shipments because everyone wants a Wii.  If they have 250 Wiis in stock, that might generation 1,000 people worth of foot traffic over the week, so they save them up. Nintendo delivering Wiis to a store is like a huge briefcase of money arriving, and they can maximize it if they're careful to release them in the proper way.

You might see stores saying things like, "we're releasing Wiis every day this week, at random times.  If you're in our store shopping and we announce 50 Wiis available, you'll have a shot at getting them."

In my (small-ish) city on Sunday, there were 99 at one of the Targets, ~60 at the TRU, and fairly large quantities available at the Best Buys as well.   One of my friends finally got his Wii after a month of hard searching.

So if only 173k was sold last week how much this week. They could be over 500k this week. And maybe that much next week.

sitinon- you from Louisiana as well?

The low Wii sales can be easily explained. A lot of people are getting HDTVs as gift for christmas, so to complement it they need either a 360 or PS3. Nobody with an HDTV would even think of getting a Wii.

Once 360 and PS3 get a price cut, the Wii will die.

Why would the PS3 get a price cut? It's so awesome people will work two jobs just to try to afford one!

Wii doesnt have enough stock to sell 600k in one week.NPD data will prove that.

It would if retailers had been sitting on stock

Yes and then the sales for previous weeks would be very small. The Wii has been sold out in NA until now and Nintendo said they hadnt done any stockpiling. So all supply comes from monthly production thats 1.8 million...if it was to sell 600k in NA in just one week and say 1.5 million for the month it would have only 300k for supply for the rest of the world for the whole month. This isnt happening.

There.

Diomedes- do you have a complex or are you simply trying to be funny. Retailers aren't the only ones that stockpile. So does Nintendo. They increased to 1.8 miillion Wii's a month back in the summer, but they didn't ship that many. Now they are probably shipping 4 million worldwide in December, and 2 million the month before it, and the original 1.5 million in October. Which if ya do the math you'll get right about 20.5 million which is probably how much they wanted shipped by the end of 2007.

They said they weren't stockpiling unit to boost demand, which does not mean they aren't stockpiling for the holidays. This has been pointed out before on this forum, many many times, including at least once in response to you.  Either you have very selective vision/memory or you're stupid.
