Could also be that since Kinect is a $150 (US) investment that comes with a game. The purchase of additional software lags.  Certainly the percentage of people that purchase a Wii with a piece of software is a good deal lower than the percentage of people that purchase a 360 or PS3 with a piece of software.   Kinect software has remained higher after Christmas simply because of this. People got the Kinect for the holiday and over the next couple of weeks they picked up another piece of software.  Now the software is slowing, but Kinect and Kinect Adventures may continue to sell at a strong pace. Kinect Sports and Dance Central will continue to sell well and chart for a long time, just maybe not in the top 10-20.

If this is true then why has the Wii got a higher tie ratio than the Ps3? It is a fallacy that the Ps3 sells more SW than the Wii.

UK Software unit sales in 2010:

360 - 18.1 million
PS3 - 13.8 million
WII - 13.6 million
NDS - 9.8 million
PC - 5.3 million
PSP - 1.6 million

On average PS3 owners bought more than twice as many games as Wii owners in the UK in 2010.

 

 

So now you are cherrypicking 1 year and 1 area? Look at the WORLDWIDE WEEKLY CHARTS on the front page and you will see the tie ratio which is the average amount of games bought per console owner.

Well you need to take a look at the VGC charts with one key thought in mind. Wii currently comes with 2 games that are counted as sales.  They are not part of the tie ratio.  Those games were not bought. They came with the hardware for free.



Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

The posts I quoted were discussing the UK chart, posting UK sales figures is completely relevant, unlike you who wants to bring worldwide sales into a PAL charts thread.

Firstly it wasn't me who brought the WW sw sales into this thread. I was replying to someone who claimed the PS3 sold more SW than the Wii. Secondly, i don't buy into this whole "you get 2 pieces of SW every time you buy a Wii" nonsense. I would think that most people who buy a Wii do it because they WANT Wii sports. (Not too sure about resort though.) Come back to me, anyway when the PS3 has NO bundled SW. It's not like the PS3 never has SW bundles!
