Forums - Sales - Gears 2 passes Gears 1 Party time!

What the hell? How did the conversation regarding Agent popped up? By the way where is the 5M number being pulled from? It's a new IP, with barely information regarding it's development. New IPs rarely tend to sell 5M off the bat, especially exclusive ones, only in the rare instances when the game appeals to a large audience. You can't expect the name of Rockstar alone to carry this title across the 5M mark.

5 million is a big deal on the PS3, especially outside the CoD/GTA empire.

Assassin's Creed on the 360 sold 5 million, and that franchise, like LBP and Gears of War established itself early in the generation. None of the exclusive new IP's from 2009 onward have been successful on both the PS3 and 360. e.g. InFamous, Heavy Rain, Alan Wake, Mod Nation Racers, etc.

To be honest, I dunno the details for the contract Agent is under. Is it even under contract? FFXIII was only planned as an exclusive, and then went multiplatform. Still although it's almost certain Agent will remain a PS3 exclusive, if Rockstar market this and make it big, I can't picture it staying exclusive. Even PS2 GTA's went multiplat with the much less successful Xbox 1.

As for the contract for GTA Episodes, no one knew it was limited to a timed release until after both DLC were released on the 360 for a good period of time.

Gears Pre-order total count is over inflated due to it's April release, but it's weekly gains are not inflated, and it's still getting 2/3rds the pre-orders of Killzone 3, and is still 7th overall in weekly pre-order changes.

In the end, I disagree with your opinion, but that's my opinion. I respect yours, and although I disagree, I'll accept your view as your own. It's no more correct then mine is, it's just an opinion. Wow thats confusing lol

Good debate.

5m is a big deal but that has fast changed after PS3 SLIMS and will continue to chnage

why even compare Heavy rain, alan wake, modnation when you should yourself know they were nowhere near expected to sell well

yeah AGENT could go multiplatform but only like older GTA's on PS2 after one year

yeah gears weekly is big not denying that, was just debating over total count

Now tell me, you predict that it will sell 5M, what is your prediction based on other than pure speculation? This is the official site btw,

http://www.rockstargames.com/agent/

Even the site is not finished yet, so where you pulled that number from considering there is barely any information out about this yet is beyond me.

P.S Plenty of IPs, even the ones well received by critics have failed to cross the 5M mark, more so than the ones that did manage to do it. E.g, Heavy Rain, Alan Wake, Left 4 Dead, Mass Effect, Uncharted I to name a few.

If Gears 3 has lagfree online it will be the biggest Gears yet and the biggest exclusive title on any HD platform after Halo, just saying.

GT5 may be bigger then Gears 3, and Uncharted 3 has hope to be almost as big as Gears 3, but your 100% right, and Gears 3 > ODST :P

I loved UC2, its easily better than any Gears, but the multiplayer was not as apealing to me as Gears. If it where to sell Gears numbers, it needs better MP imo, maybe UC3 has that i don't know, it will sell better than UC2 though (at least early UC2 was bundled).

Uncharted quality vs. Gears is about the same, they get about the same ratings. I prefer Gears of War, but I like Sci-Fi more, you might like something more realisitc, hence you like Uncharted more. Also I think Gears 2 was more multiplayer focused then Uncharted 2.

UC2 almost broke 5 million, and it still may. UC3 may get similar numbers to Gears 3. I have a feeling were going to see a lot of comparisions from these 3rd person shooters as they will get similar ratings, sales, and are both star titles in their respective home consoles 2011 fall lineup.

The 5 million number I set. We were debating about Gears potentials and the idea of Agent outselling Gears came in. We agree it's an unlike scenario and I was just pointing out that even 5 million will be difficult for Agent.

Gears, and Assassin's Creed did it, but Gears of War was the flagship 360 title before Halo 3, and before CoD got big, and Assassin's Creed was a rare case, and still launched early into 360's life. It will be much harder for Agent to pull those numbers.

Heavy Rain, Alan Wake, MNR, MAG, and InFamous were all new IP's that didn't sell 5 million. I agree they probably did't aim for 5 million, but I think except for InFamous and HR, the others fell short of expectations. We have no indication that Agent will be a big budget game anyway, Rockstar has produced more modest selling games then blockbuster hits. Outside of GTA, no Rockstar game has yet to have broken 5 million on a single console, and all their big games are multiplatform. It doesn't make sence that Agent will become bigger then anything else they made outside GTA.

Agent couple go multi-platform, and I agree if it does, it will likely be a timed exclusive. Generally when devs sneak around contracts it's by timed exclusives (GTA IV Episodes is a perfct example).

and Gears total count I agree with you, but my point was that the weekly gain for it is still 2/3rds of Killzones lol!

Anyway were done debating, we know each others opinion. Good luck on your exams.

what do you mean by the site's not fully built yet?

they have kept it that way since 2009

plenty of new ip's do fail to reach but don't think a game that is gonna be one of the biggest and one of the few third party exclsuives
