How Sony Can Make Their Next Gen Portable A Must Buy?

It's simple: New IPs that can sell more the than 20 million with one single game. I mean Uncharted, God of War, Heavy Rain, Metal Gear and even Gran Turismo (combined!?) aren't capable to move as much hardware as a simple 2D Mario (you just have to look at the PSP and DS software sales to see it). So instead of PS3-like games the NGP will need some DS/Wii-like games in order to become a must buy to a wide audience.

Blank post is blank ----------------carry on

Something tells me there is some sort of a word document being sent off to people around this forum with a set of responses to be used in all NGP threads cuz I swear I see a post like this every darn thread -_- ...btw radiant I'm telling you here not referring to you :P

anywho great great read :) thanks for posting

DSiWare has many iPhone type games dude. And thats DSi download service. I understand some people are really excited for a touch screen on NGP, its a novelty for them if you they had just a PSP, but don't you forget that DS had one back in 2004, and so 3DS will have a touch screen. Any "iphone type" game is possible on the DS and 3DS. And of course the NGP.

The only market Sony is catering that Nintendo won't be able to compete is the high end gamer, graphics whore, but that strategy wasn't much usefull for the PSP as it got smashed by DS.

Dual analog isnt simply for "graphic whore". Beside a probably higher price then competitors, NGP isnt comparable to PSP in any way.

Really good Read!

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

TV - Deadwood

Music - Forest Swords

You've changed tack :/

Sure no console has bought those features but like with the PS3 / 360 / Wii comparison in terms of overall features it is really hard to anticipate ahead of time how meaningful they are and what other factors may over-ride them.

I just don't personally, and this is entirely opinion based, see what the 3DS can offer in terms of competition with the NGP outside of its 1st party lineup and the 3D effect of the screen.  If it truley is revolutionary and amazing I think it may seal the deal for Nintendo but I think moveing more to an Iphone type set up will be a much larger deal.  Just imagine the impact of a game the equivalent of Words With Friends but on the NGP would mean for sales with its robust online 3G component.

Price however as always will be King.  And again this is all opinion and not meant as a knock towards Nintendo AT ALL, just personally if the NGP delivers what its promising to me all hype was killed for the 3DS, and I planned on buying it at launch.

It isn't just price we're talking about here, brand recognition of which the PSP is the third best, at best, at the moment with the Nintendo DS being first and the Apple iOS range being 2nd. You also have to consider vendor lock-in, especially as the Nintendo 3DS will play DS games and all iTunes content will carry forwards whereas Sony is starting from a significantly weaker positon on both counts.

When will NGP actually release? If the NGP releases in 2012 a full year or more after the release of the 3DS and iPad 2 as well as other various competing products it won't have the same luster on the market it would if it was releasing in a months time alongside the 3DS. Sony releasing this information now is to act as a spoiler to the 3DS launch but we still don't know when it'll actually get released. I wonder if it indeed was a 2011 product whether they would have stated that in their briefing. Sometimes no news is infact bad news.

Finally even with the NGP on the market, you'll have to consider that Nintendo will always have that cut priced $100-150 option in the NDS that Sony doesn't have. Nintendo can cover more of the market between the 3DS and the DS than Sony can cover with the NGP, so the question remains at the price point it eventually releases and and the form factor, how big a market can the NGP cover?

Tease.

Not everything is that complex though, as much as we users here at VgChartz like to make it.  Look at the complete turn around the Wii gave Nintendo. Its just my personal feelings that the NGP is powerful enough, attractive enough, and revolutionary enough of a system that it has garnered gamers attention in a big way.   And that is all.  Like I said not overly complex breaking down markets and all this head scratching stuff we all like to dig in on. Sometimes its not that complex.  Sometimes things can just be taken at face value.

I just think gamers love what NGP has to offer and it will do great and make this a much closer battle with Nintendo given it has great software and a reasonable price.

the only thing that can kill them now is the price

if it is under th 299.99 mark i might buy it but if its too much then ill be waiting for price drop

they also need a good line-up, so far they showed an uncharted demo which isn a bad thing

NGP is d00m3d. I said it. Just don't see how it can beat the 3DS unfortunately but then again, pretty sure 6 years ago, no one thought it was possible for the wii to beat the ps3 so I will just grab my popcorn and watch. I most likely wont get any of the devices.

Actually people did, they just were the average gamers (and a certain blogger that has achieved notoriety this gen), the industry never believed that it could, until it did

Good read, i kinda skimmed it but I'll read it more in depth later.

No way a handheld should cost more than a home console though. $300 would be a good entry price with the 3G model costing $350 or up to $400 maximum; but the key is $300 entry price (or lower)

Bring GT,Monster Hunter, and Final Fantasy to it,and it should become a must-buy.In Japan at least.
